Not really. A lot of damage is caused by flooding.

Yes, a “ridiculous” state of emergency for a tropical storm. If you were actually educated as to what is going on, the worries are all about flooding. Yeah 70 mph winds or whatever can do some damage too, and there’s always tornado risks with these tropical systems. But it’s all about the rain.

Go google Tampa flooding, or read this:

http://www.tampabay.com/news/weather/hurricanes/water-logged-tampa-bay-braces-for-tropical-storm-erika-more-flooding/2243184

Everything around here (I’m in Tampa) is already REALLY saturated. I’m fine but there are low-lying areas that are going to be in a lot of trouble if this thing brings 10+ inches of rain.

Yes, this hell-storm might pack winds of up to 40 MPH! We may as well kiss Florida goodbye.

Its not the wind its the water. Most of my property is still soggy from the dousing we got last week. All the local ponds are at the highest levels I’ve seen in years.

It's called the Katrina Effect.

After the mess in New Orleans with Katrina no governor or mayor will be caught without having pre-warned everyone to use their common sense.

Better safe than sorry.........I remember some guy named Nagin who regretted not issuing a SOE until it was too late.
