Sandy was not a hurricane when it made landfall. That’s why they had to come up with the name “Superstorm Sandy”.

The only reason SANDY did so much damage is it came ashore at a very high tide in one of the most populated places in the USA. It also had two storms from the north barreling down on the same area.
it was barely considered a “hurricane”, more like a tropical storm.
