Women should dress modestly or expect to ‘entice a rapist’ – claims singer Chrissie Hynde

I don't support any man's "right" to rape a woman, no matter how "provactively" she dresses. It is a man's duty to control his sexual urges. Period.

But if women dress like whores, they shouldn't be surprised when they're treated like whores. If they send the message, it shouldn't shock them when the message gets through. And if that's NOT the message they're trying to send, see my question: IF you WERE trying to send that message, how would you go about it? And how the hell is a man supposed to tell the difference?

Yes, men have an obligation -- an ABSOLUTE obligation -- to keep themselves under control. But women also have an obligation to be honest about the image they're presenting. You can't dress like a streewalker and expect to be treated like a lady.

I don’t think Hynde thinks rapists should get “off the hook” either. She seems to be saying women ought to be wise about their dress and behaviour, because behaving badly in that respect will invite others to behave badly.

I think she is accurate.

Unless you feel the urge to have sex with the car, the comparison is specious.

But you knew that ...

Gloria Estefan not so much.

She has betrayed her earlier roots in freedom and liberty against communism. She has hosted none other than B. Hussein Obama at fund raiser in her Miami 1%er home.

I no longer listen to her.

Exactly.

The word "fault" reveals not only a limited vocabulary, but a limited inventory of ideas.

No, I don't think she was asking for it, and assault is not okay.

It's not blaming the victim to say that the world is a big, bad place and stuff happens. Something to keep in mind when deciding how to dress, where to go and when to get loopy.

Gee I’m glad for you and your fanboy devotion but you can find Rush and his hilarious quote about your lovebunny all over out there on the web.

I’ve been listening to Rush since he hit the national airwaves in ‘88 and-—as I said-—he USED to make the joke about Chrissie quite often.

If this fact causes you to be torn between your listening to Rush “all the time” and your imaginary soul-bond with the drugged-up, drunken slut Chrissie...well, then it sucks to be you.

Good luck!

Often, feminist logic does not compute and this was a good case in point.

That depends upon what they're trying to accomplish.

“Is it rape if they don’t say ‘no’?”

You mean like if you put your hand over their mouth?

No, that's not what I meant at all.

What I meant was that if the woman decided to consume so much of any mind altering substance that she doesn't say no, is it still rape?

Sorry you misunderstood. This type of communication we are engaged in does have its limitations.

Have to agree. At the very least, if you’re not drunk, you have a chance of fending off the sicko. Not being drunk, high or half undressed, you’ll stand a better chance in court when you’re accused of shooting off the huevos.

Well I’m glad to hear you verify its not a woman’s fault if she gets raped. You were sounding a little like a 40 percenter. ;-)

In some ways this fits in with her great on stage commentary just prior to the start of war that toppled Saddam.

“Have we gone to war yet?’’ she asked sarcastically. “We -———’ deserve to get bombed. Bring it on.’’ Later she yelled, “Let’s get rid of all the economic s-— this country represents! Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win!”

Yes. The poor didn't win the bathing suit contest, of course, but she was awarded Best Butt.

Your argument is specious. Raping a woman, no matter how she's dressed, isn't treating her like a whore. By definition, whores sell a service. As small business owners, they get to set the price for services they're willing to perform and place limits on acts they'll refuse to engage in at any price, and to decide whether to accept a particular client. Raping a whore is rape, as is raping any woman you deem to be acting or dressed like a whore.

Ms. Hynde was, I suppose, summarizing a whole confluence of factors that make rape more probable. It’s a shame that she chose probably one of the least important - clothes - as opposed to factors such as being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, being alone late at night with a lot of other drunk or drugged people, having previously engaged in various personal intimacies with the people around, and so on.

If clothing was the main point, there would be assaults at all the beaches and swimming pools, but there aren’t: at least, not in the daytime, not when people are sober, etc. Men would be throwing themselves on women bulging out of their clothes at Walmart, but they’re not.

In my opinion, if she used the words “entice a rapist,” then whatever verbal feedback she gets is completely justified. That’s a Sharia-compliant thing to say.

So your question is was it rape or was it rape rape? That’s something only Whoopi Goldberg can answer. :-)
