Careful when you draw. Unload and draw a couple of times real slow. Notice anything? Yep. You are most likely muzzling yourself. Anything past 5 o’clock and you have a tendency to do so. If you aren’t turning your muzzle into your body as you are getting ready to punch out... Then you must know something I don’t.

Agreed. I've noticed that the open-carries are often people that seem to be trying to stir things up and a bit too in-your-face about things. I don't see the need for attention. I expect to see open carry if I go into a gun shop, but does someone really need one at Wal-Mart?

I prefer keeping it simple as no one needs to know I am carrying. So far, the only comments have come from my boys spotting mine and patting me down to figure out what was there or since to see if I am carrying it. My wife never spotted it without their observation first. She's not happy. The boys have taken to pointing out people carrying concealed when we go places, most I never would have spotted.

Since I typically hit what I aim at, I wonder how many times is someone in a situation where 13-14 isn’t enough?

Because generally I hit everything EXCEPT what I aim at.

I have no water or food supplies, and my house is made of paper mache'.

I have no skills or abilities, and my health is horrible. I panic under any crisis, including what to eat for breakfast.

I have no redeeming features. May I join your after-the-apocalypse protection group?

I have never had a reputable trainer recommend a Taurus, never. From dealers to trainers to people who shoot alot, the one constant I've heard about Taurus is their QC is horrible.

Personally, I think people who cheap out on a carry pistol are nuts, but again, that's just my opinion.

Even Glocks have had enough reported reliability problems lately for me to move away from them. The only carry pistol I would consider currently is a H&K or J-frame/LCR .38spl.

I am picky about it.

Elaborate. That is my go-to defensive item.

It’s a crazy world. If you want to keep things simple, get a revolver with a crimson trace laser. Think of how you are going to defend yourself in the event of a home invasion or other emergency situation. If you need to leave your home for some reason to get someplace safe, how are you going to protect yourself along the way? Of course, you’ll need to put in some time at the range to familiarize yourself with your weapon.

I heard of enough inconsistent ejection issues in late Gen 3/Gen 4 G19's that I no longer considered them as an option for me. The problems were reportedly fixable with aftermarket parts, but I had no interest in that.

Obviously, not every example has an issue, and I consider Glocks reliable enough generally to recommend them as an option. If yours is working for you, I don't see any reason to worry about it.

H&K's are, pretty much without dispute, probably the most out of the box reliable defensive pistol out there. And most accurate.

They are expensive, the USP has a non-standard accessory rail which limits weapon-light choices somewhat. And a lot of people don't like their triggers.

For me they are the best choice,

I don’t leave one in the chamber...I train to pull the gun out while racking the slide as it comes around to the front...for that very reason.

We (my wife and I) fixed our ejection problems with our Glocks by using a better grip. I have a 17 gen 3 and she a 26 gen 4. No modifications needed, just more practice.

You may get some silly ones like “ get a 50 cal pistol

That's not silly. The S&W 500 is a great gun. It's a little weak on concealability, but it more than makes up for that with stopping power. [sarcasm?]

I thought the Taurus Judge was absurd when I first saw it. I vot a chance to fire it and fell in love. Fires .410 shells as well as cartridges. It looks like a cartoon pistol, but the kick was manageable enough to fire with one hand. Great home defense gun. Revolver too.
