A federal judge has ordered Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis and her deputies to appear in his courtroom Thursday and explain why Davis should not be held in contempt of court for refusing to issue marriage licenses.
Shortly after opening her doors Tuesday, Davis told two same-sex couples who asked for marriage licenses that she would not issue them, despite a federal court injunction ordering her to do so. In a brief but tense encounter between Davis and a couple dozen marriage-equality demonstrators who crowded into her office, the clerk repeatedly refused to comply with the court order.
"Under whose authority are you not issuing marriage licenses?" someone in the crowd asked Davis.
"Under God's authority," she responded.
"I'm willing to face my consequences and you all will face your consequences when it comes time for judgment," she said. "Plain and simple."

We need prisoners of conscience.
I would also challenge them to point to a law that was debated and passed.
Judges hold no legislative power..
I’m from PA and remember when Kane, our (currently embattled) AG refused to defend the Pennsylvania “definition of marriage” act in court due to her personal beliefs. I guess that’s OK for this bunch of hypocrites.
She should send the local Sheriff to tell the Feds to take a hike. Roberts should be the hike leader.
Kudos to her for taking a stand at great risk personally and professionally. Some things are worth fighting for, even if it is a losing battle. God bless her.
It is well within the Governor Beshear’s power to have both prevented this conflict to begin with, and now to end this conflict without causing anyone to violate their beliefs. He chooses not to do so - does he like the turmoil?
These federal black robed tyrants see themselves as gods. I see them as contemptible excuses for decent human beings.
Those who suffer persecution for God are rewarded by Christ, in this life or the next.
A federal judge also has no jurisdiction to be issuing an order to a state official to carry out a state function. They are in the wrong venue...but apparently this judge is clueless on this issue.
God be with this courageous woman. She needs our prayers.
The public needs to back this woman with and over 100,000 strong protest.
This stuff has got to stop, and this is one line too far IMO.

I don’t know how she gets out of the trap of the existing legal system. If she shows up, the judge may have her taken into custody and imprisoned. If she doesn’t appear, the judge will issue an order for her arrest. Unless the local authorities are willing to defy and confront the court with whatever is necessary, she will likely become a prisoner of conscience.

Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
She understands scripture - our loyalty and obedience are among the many things that are God's.
Notice how the homosexual lawyers are adamant that she should have increasing fines until she is crushed, *not* jail time.
If she gets jail time, in a manner of speaking, she wins.
This is clearly a matter of conscience.
She was able to do her job, which she was elected to, before the Supreme Court ruling was made.
Why should a Supreme Court ruling now force her from her elected position if it conflicts with her religious views?
And where is the law that codifies the Supreme Court decision? If Supreme Court judges now make law, then why do we need Congress. The Supremes can decide everything.
If Ms. Davis was wearing a burkha, we would not even be having this conversation.

it will be interesting how the judge reacts to being told no.
He may behave well and listen to her argument or puff-up his feathers and behave badly, how dare a citizen question a judge!
I suspect the later.
She should just politely decline to appear. She’s broken no law.
