An 11-year-old boy shoots an almost 17-year-old who had broken into his home, saving his 4-year-old sister and scaring away another burglar. The burglars repeatedly tried to break into the home, finally succeeding on their third attempt.
The mother apparently purchased the handgun because of several previous attempted break-ins of her home.
One can only imagine the relief that the mother had that her children were safe.
Yet, the reaction from police and authorities was to question why the gun was so easily accessible. Police Sargent Brian Schellman told KTVI in St. Louis: Just seems at this point that any one can pull the trigger on a weapon. Its very scary.
Missouri is a state with a so-called safe storage law, one that imposes criminal liability when a minor under 18 gains access to a negligently stored firearm.
But no one seems to ask what would have happened if the children hadnt been able to protect themselves. . . .

the gun was not stored unsafely.
no prosecution should occur for a crime that was not committed.
we are truly upside down.
Well, there is a tendency for knee jerk reactions to breaking (Inaccurate) news...

Brilliant. WHy doesn’t this loser do something intelligent, like go out and arrest some looters. Must be a Democrat.
My thinking is this.
One guy is home minding his own business going about life. He’s there alone or with family. He has no evil intent whatsoever.
The other guy(s) have planned to do something for kicks or profit at someone else’s expense.
They enter his home to that end.
IMO, the homeowner should be graced in with whatever he does. He should have immunity from any type of prosecution.
As far as I am concerned, if he has the perp down on the floor, he can pull the trigger for all I care, threat at that point or not.
Just feakin execute the guy.
Tell you what, home invasion robberies, ZERO!
That word gets out, and they’re over.
This is just a symptom of our whiney spineless wussified society.
We had a rifle, shotgun ,pistol and a Bow in my home. We lived “in the country”. I knew were each was stored and I knew how to use each one, at least by 12 years of age.
"When seconds count, we're only minutes away."
“Update: Its looking more and more like the 11-year-old was a known troublemaker who murdered the 16-year-old.
But that narrative doesnt square with Donna Jackson, who lives across the street.
She said she saw the 11-year-old shoot the 16-year-old point-blank in the head as the two were talking on a half brick wall near the homes front door. It was not a break-in, said Jackson, 45. He shot him in the head.
She said it was traumatic to see something like that. There wasnt a reason why it happened like it happened, she said. It was really sad.
Another neighbor two doors down from the shooting offers a similar account.
Jazmyne Clark, 18, said the 11-year-old was on the front porch when he called to the 16-year-old to approach him. She said the teen might have been seeking to sell the younger child a cellphone. When the 16-year-old reached the front door, Clark said, the 11-year-old shot him, with the teen falling forward into the open front door.
He was never in the house, Clark said. He wasnt breaking in at all. He was just trying to sell him his phone.
Clark said the 11-year-old had been in front of the house earlier in the day waving a gun around. She said that the boy had caused problems in the neighborhood before and that this kind of thing was bound to happen eventually.
Another neighbor, Anna Carvin, 25, said the 11-year-old had previously broke into her own home and stole cellphones.
If I ruled the world, you would be Magistrate Imperius.
Yes, I shouldn’t have jumped to a conclusion. All the facts are necessary. The laws in most states have strict penalties for leaving a gun accessible to a minor including mandatory prison sentencing and fines. If this was a trap, set by the 11 year old, both he and his mother should be sent to prison..
Wait for further developments, indeed.
See my Post 27 for the update.
when I was 10 I got a .22 rifle for Christmas.
I remember what age because I wanted one from age 8 or 9, and was repeatedly told I needed to be 10. MY younger brother got his own a year later. But we both went into the woods with boxes of .22 ammo and had a great time- some of the best of my life.
But even at that age it was drilled into me never to point it at anything but the ground. It was like second nature
These days that would probably get my parents arrested

Looks like we got our distracto story for the next two weeks. I can hear the commentary now.
Many of the statements made by holier-than-thous will begin with “For too long we’ve...” and “No longer can we....”
And the questions will begin with “This sends a message that....”
Put ‘em all together and we get things like “At the end of the day, no longer can we hold anyone accountable for sending the message that for too long this kind of disregard for our traditions and laws must be stopped before my french fries get cold.”
“The gun was not stored unsafely.
no prosecution should occur for a crime that was not committed.
we are truly upside down.”
True statements: This isn’t a case of a minor “injuring” someone with a gun through misuse. To hear this cop, if you’re a minor, you have no right to self-defense. Upside down is right!
I, as the supreme empathist, got it instantly. Rock on, dude.
Oh oh...
There you go. The officers were right after all.
So sorry to hear this. I had hoped the kid was simply protecting himself and his sister.
Sounds like that mom did use very poor judgment.
If the kid was a problem she really blew it.
Thank you.
Sounds like typical cop attitude to me.
“WE ARE THE POLICE, WE ARE HERE TO DRAW THE CHALK LINES AROUND YOUR COLD, DEAD BODIES AND SHOOT YOUR DOG. ONLY WE, THE HIGHLY TRAINED POLICE, SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO FIREARMS”.
Sounds like the kid did pretty damn well to me; hope he killed the perp he shot and put the fear of the ARMED CITIZEN into the one who got away.
Wow what a different era we live in. At the age of 10 I had added 4 deer and 4 elk to the family freezer an more rabbit, squirrel, dove, duck and pheasant than we could eat. I started hunting at 7 years old. Hell I even took an old Model 74 Winchester to my first grade class “show and tell” .... Mrs Rainwater, my teacher didn’t bat an eye, after my presentation she just said to prop it in the corner till school was out.......
Political Correctness has ruined this nation.
