I don't think that would go over very well with the American people. A presidential candidate saying he'll serve two years and a day and then turn it over to his VP who will then get a chance to serve as president for 10 years? That violates the spirit of the 22nd Amendment and the people would read too much (conspiracy) into a proposition like that. Our president should not have the ability to openly choose his own successor like that.

Nope, if stated as a clear plan the electorate would be voting for two presidents. The people would be choosing both Trump and Cruz as POTUS.
