GOP presidential hopeful Cruz to visit jailed Kentucky clerk

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is heading to a Kentucky jail to support the county clerk imprisoned for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier says the Texas senator will meet with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis on Tuesday afternoon. Another Republican presidential hopeful, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, had previously announced plans to meet with Davis Tuesday.

Davis has become a conservative hero since being jailed last Thursday. The GOP’s evangelical wing says she should be allowed to deny same-sex marriage licenses because of her religious beliefs. The Supreme Court made same-sex marriage the law of the land in June.

Frazier says Cruz won’t attend an afternoon rally with Huckabee and other Davis supporters outside the Carter County Detention Center where Davis is being held.

My respect for TC is not as tenuous or barometric as yours.

Cruz has been a religious liberty/constitutionalist guy for as long as he's had my attention. After all, one of his mentors on the supreme court was a strong supporter of religious liberty and 10th amendment rights.

I’m not sure what to think here.

On the one hand, I’m not religious, but I very strongly believe in religious freedom. And no that does not mean freedom FROM religion the way atheists seem to think. No I’m not an atheist either. Atheists are slugs trying to wipe out religion entirely. If you don’t like the 10 Commandments posted on a sign at the local courthouse, nobody forces you to look at it. Move on and don’t worry about it.

To me it means you have the right to practice whatever religion you wish according to the guidelines of that religion. The Bible says that if a man lay with a man as with a woman it is an abomination unto God. (Paraphrased, I don’t know the exact quote) Yes I’ve read the Bible, 6 or 8 times. That makes a homosexual relationship something considered a sin to Christians. Most consider it disgusting. This supreme court ruling is forcing people to violate their religious beliefs.

On the other hand, this is supposedly law now. But how many times have well known American patriots refused to follow unfair laws? The Boston Tea Party comes to mind. This country itself was founded as a revolt against a king who was imposing laws on it without representation.

One thing I’m wondering about. Ms Davis is a Democrat. How many Democrat politicians have visited her in jail? So far all I’ve heard about is Cruz and Huckabee...both Republicans...

I wonder how long before she considers switching parties...hmmmm...look who supported me when I was in a bind...maybe I should rethink my loyalties...

I know nothing about you, but your hatred for Rev. Graham is beyond the pale. Rev. Graham spoke out on this issue and I know he has been praying. God uses who He will to get a task done - that doesn’t mean all of us have to jump on a bus and ride into Kentucky to protest this unfair ruling. I don’t care how much Rev. Gr4aham makes - you seem stuck on his annual salary and I have to wonder why it bothers you so much. Are you jealous? Sounds like it. Or do you believe that all Christians have to be poverty stricken? Look in the OT - most of the patriarchs were very wealthy - as God blessed them. Even Paul at times was well to do. So, maybe you need to search within your heart for your reasons for persecuting Reve. Graham. Remember, when you speak ill of one of God’s children like this - you are speaking ill of Jesus. “Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.”

I don’t “hate” Rev. Franklin Graham ... rather I am “ashamed” of his spiritual cowardice ...

American Christians deserve BETTER from a guy who “relishes” being a national spiritual leader ($ 800,000 a year, a GIANT red flag in itself)

.

Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm ...

another pathetic attempt to use scripture to justify "cowardice" or "corruption" by a church leader ...

King David was reprimanded by the prophet Nathan ... was Nathan in error ?

"NO"

It’s quite obvious you didn’t read a word of my post. so, you are close minded. I’m done talking to someone who has a brick between his ears. And, whether you hate Rev. Graham or not - you are persecuting him. Maybe you don’t know the story of Mose’s wife - people were railing against her and saying horrible things about her - and God struck them with leprosy for it. “Vengeance is mine - I will repay, saith the Lord.”

Maybe she's a DINO?

Rev. Graham is not a pastor of a church - he is an evangelist and his ministry has done more good in one week than youj will ever do in a lifetime. You are one pig-headed dude, that’s for sure. God uses who He wills, and Rev. Graham has been vocal in his support of Kim Davis. We don’t know what his calendar is like or even if he is in the states right now. Lighten up Francis! He even posted prayer for her on his facebook. What do you want him to do - march across a bridge chanting we shall overcome? Wow -you are pathetic.

I agree about the wisdom of standing by a democrat deserted by her party. If there is a political conversion, I'm guessing it will include at least some local Davis Supporters.

The GOP is standing up for black 2nd amendment rights in Detroit when their own party won't. (Rick Ector is a Detroit firearms instructor and 2nd amendment proponent)

I like your idea ... it's MAGNIFICENT !!!

One thing's for sure ... if I had an $ 800,000 annual salary as a "national spiritual leader" (inherited from daddy) ...

and I could write my own schedule at a whim (like Rev. Franklin Graham can) ...

and I was CEO of an organization with a Multi-Million dollar annual budget (like Rev. Franklin Graham) ...

and I had the "pwer" to call a "national press conference" to organize "massive civil disobedience) regarding Kim Davis (like Rev. Franklin Graham can) ...

ALL those things would happen.

Certainly, despite his fault (as we all have) ... Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had COURAGE and GUTS ...

a quality sadly lacking in Rev. Franklin Gramham when it comes to FIGHTING for Christian Kim Davis ...

we can only hope that Rev. Franklin Graham "grows a pair" spiritually ...

while "living large" on $ 800,000 per year ...

I take it you support someone else, as do many current posters on FR.

You take it wrong.

They pretty much all suck. Trump might suck a bit less because he is not (yet) a made-man in one of the two organized crime families currently running the country.

I didn’t think about that possibility, you may be right. But I’ve been watching and it’s Republicans that are standing up for her, and whether I like them or not, (I do) they’re doing a good thing I think by organizing rallies and visiting her. I’d almost bet it causes her to at least stop and rethink her loyalties.

I like both Huckabee and Cruz, I think either would make a good president, but not this time around. And both do still have to answer to big money donors....Cruz wants more H1B visas, and I just don’t think he’s ready for the office for some reason...Huckabee is just not a strong enough leader.

Cruz wants to raise the cap on H1b visa holders but that's an extremely simplified version of what he actually supports. A lot of it is about real enforcement, truly making sure Americans are hired first, and paying the visa holders the same so there is no advantage. Here is video of Ted Cruz explaining it in detail on the floor of the senate.

He and Donald Trump are very much ideological Twins on this one.

You are posting with vagueness.

There - is that clearer?

I have not heard any candidate step up and say that the FEDGOV needs to be limited to the few and enumerated powers that were intended.

Trump and Carson are outsiders but neither has the constitutional chops required. Cruz does - but I think he would best serve as Chief Justice.

Everyone else running is either a joke or part of the problem.

To clarify, unless another candidate comes on the scene, you will support no one of any party for the Office of the Presidency. correct?

(You are still posting with vagueness. Why?)

>> “The Supreme Court made same-sex marriage the law of the land in June.” <<

No, they did not!

Their ruling was a canard, in that no couple that sought true marriage was ever denied that opportunity, thus the the 14th amendment has no relationship to the case.

The SCOTUS attempted to relate a union that bore no resemblance to marriage, to true marriage, thus their ruling was legislation, which is permitted only to the legislative branch by the constitution.

Davis is trying to uphold the law, and the judges are openly violating both the statutes of KY, and the Constitution of the US.
