New James Bond gets a live-in girlfriend and 'outspoken' gay friend
The Telegraph ^ | Sep 8, 2015 | Hannah Furness

For decades he has swaggered through life conquering women, chain smoking and saving the world, untroubled by the sensitivities of the 21st century.

In a new book, however, James Bond will be getting a dose of modern morality, as author Anthony Horowitz reveals the tricks he used to drag the spy kicking and screaming into the era of political correctness.

Horowitz, the writer of new Bond novel Trigger Mortis, said he had worked carefully to preserve Ian Fleming’s original character and ensuring his 1950s attitudes remained in tact.

James Bond has a homosexual friend and that is supposedly males him politically correct and brings him up to date.

Actually, during the era of Ian Fleming's Bond novels British intelligence was heavily populated by homosexuals. Many were Soviet Agents who betrayed their country who provided invaluable help to the former Soviet Union during the cold war.

Will the new Bond have an affair with Pussy Galore's brother Dick Galore?

I’ve written a number of novels. My favorite genre was technothrillers. I was told by agents that I needed a gay character or some gay themes. I had to have more ethnic characters, primarily blacks. When I started to plot in the PC requirements they often detracted from the story I wanted to tell. I finally switched to fantasy and humor as I can create any sort of world and the publication requirements were not as rigid. I can also get across conservative themes and ideas and since they’re not in a contemporary setting they get missed by the literary commissars.

Ian Fleming had a legendary compound in Jamaica that had big parties that literary and show biz types attended. There was debauchery. You can bet gays came too and acted out or semi-out in contrast to staying in the closet in the UK. Just saying.....

I will not see any Bond movie where he is hanging with a Reggie Love type

Felix Leiter is the closest I can come up with.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Leiter

“Felix Leiter is a fictional character created by Ian Fleming in the James Bond series. The character is an operative for the CIA and Bond’s friend.”

Liberals do not generally create original things, they change or reinvent things others have built. So instead of creating his own PC spy, Horowitz has to transform Ian Flemming’s creation to sell his stories and to re-engineer society to a more PC version of itself. By the end of the decade James Bond will become a trans-sexual that sleeps with farm animals and he will trade his pistol for some really fabulous lipstick that matches his pumps.

Doesn’t really seem to make sense from a character point of view. Bond (so it seems to me), is a man without ties, without liabilities. No emotional investment in friends or women. He lives and works in a dangerous world where those things could be used against you or distract you. It is better that he not care too much. Plus, what kind of person would have the steely resolve to do the things he does, and then what, go home and hang it on the hat rack like it’s a coat you can take off?

One of Fleming’s best friends was Noel Coward, so he’d certainly know how to write about what the English call “poofters”
