Since September 11th, I’ve often heard it said that it brought us together as Americans. This is not what I remember. To me, it illuminated a glaring chasm between those who “took it personal”, such as myself I hardly need add, and those who considered it philosophically.
IIRC, there was film from the street that night of some young white hipster types who were fretting that it was going to rile up the right wing crazies.

Saw some coverage on youtube from a local new york station back on 9/11/01. If obama was _resident then I doubt we would have retailiated the way Bush did.
