BEN CARSON SAYS WE NEED A GUEST WORKER PROGRAM BECAUSE AMERICANS JUST WON’T WORK HARDER JOBS

In this interview with Greta on Fox News, Ben Carson explained why he thought Trump’s “deport em all” policy was unworkable and why a guest worker program makes more sense.

Watch below:

I’m not sure I agree completely with Ben Carson on that – as far as I’ve heard, the component price of produce having to do with labor is about 10%. So DOUBLING the wages you pay someone would only mean a 10% raise in the price of tomatoes. Would Americans be willing to pick tomatoes if they were paid $15-$20 an hour? I have a feeling they would.

We already have a guest worker program. The seasonal migrant workers just decided to stay. That’s a huge problem, workers and students who overstay their visas. They just don’t go home.

There’s no reason for it to be back-breaking work in 2015 anyway.

California did not have a guest worker program in 50s and 60s.

The United States had the Bracero program in the 1940s because the Americans were drafted for World War II.

But they were supposed to leave when the war was over. Their money was kept in a special account...in Mexico.

The farmworkers before them were mostly white, many from the South. Migrant workers used to be from Oklahoma....you also recall. Watsonville in 1950 was 90% white.

But life in the US was far better than Mexico. So many of them simply didnt go home.

This what led to Operation Wetback in 1954. It only took about 500,000 actual deportations and then the other 1.5 million went home on their own.

But the seed had been planted. Once the 60s rebellion got started, the remaining legals and illegals decided to take advantage of the situation to agitate for themselves and their relatives back home. Strength in numbers and the gringos started to show weakness.

It led directly where we are today.

There have always been guest worker programs since the beginning of immigration laws in the US. We have had H2A visas for decades. The A stands for agriculture. We dont need a program, we have always had one.

Its all BS. What is happening now is immivasion, complete anarchy.

PS when they got home, many were paid a fraction of what they were owed. The Mexican government and the bankers stole the rest.

Ya know, there’s a lot I like about Ben. However, I think he needs to stick to neurosurgery. He routinely comes across as utterly unqualified to hold any major political office. Maybe run for the House? I dunno.

It’s not a bright idea to parrot idiotic arguments. It makes one seem foolish.

I thought they were one and the same. Problem is letting them bring their whole families, have kids here, receive benefits, etc. In the old days I knew Mexicans that got work visas, worked and made good money in Mexican terms, then went home after the crops were picked and lived well until the next season.

Hey, we’re all angry and frustrated. I don’t think there’s anyone here who, at one time or another, wished they has spoken in a more measured tone.

It’s all out of love of country.

Sorry Ben, you lost any support I would give you with stupid comments like that. I grew up picking tomatoes and lettuce on my dad's farm back in the 60's and 70's. If I could do that as a kid back then, I'm sure there are plenty of adults who would do that now. Take away the welfare from able bodied adults and they'll do the work or do without.

We don't need guest workers and we certainly don't need guest welfare recipients. We need to find a way to put the millions of able bodied workers we have back to work. We shouldn't have to raise the minimum wage to compete with welfare handouts.

Excellent. It is good to see the GOP-establishment Trump-vote-bleeder destroy himself.

This is always just the most asinine argument ever. There is NO job that NO ONE would be willing to do, given the proper compensation. Of course I’m willing to pay whatever the price of a legally-produced tomato is, the same as anything else.

There used to be ‘guest worker’ programs where the immigrant went back home after harvest, or after a given period of time.

I know two people who have truck farms in TX. They had the same workers from MX for years. Two years ago, IIRC, the gov changed things. They were told they couldn't bring in their same seasonal guys from MX that they"d had for years- they government would chose, plus they had to have a certain number of women.

One farmer just opted to quit farming as adding separate housing for women would cost a lot. Training the workers on the equipment, and farming routines would take time, and only after training would he know if they were capable and reliable.

Also, he didn't think females could do some of the more physically demanding tasks, and he didn't want any male/ female drama creating problems on his farm.

Hey, maybe this would cure the morbid-obesity problem among the "gimme-girl" parasites.

Huh?

You know, like the $6M man (Steve Austin) and bionic woman (Lindsay Wagner) and the cross-bred (or whatever) combination human beings/giant work animals...like the rulers were using before the Flood of Noah's time to build the big stuff. That.

Welfare pays more than most “harder” jobs Carson refers to.

Carson might be a good doctor, but is either a liar or very misinformed.

As much as I like the guy, he needs to go back to medicine and do something that will benefit the nation.

Ideas like this are not what we need anymore.

Someone tell Doctor Carson if lower paid legitimate working Americans were given 200%+ raises just by walking over an imaginary federal line in the sand, they'd work their butts off too! With a smile.☺

Some of these folks like Carson are just completely detached from the reality.
