DAYTON, OHIO Dayton Police Department arrived on the scene to find a 22-year-old man had been shot and killed by a 43-year-old female homeowner in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
What was shaping up to be just another great tale of home owners defending themselves took a turn for the strange when WHIO began to uncover the checkered history of the robber. Apparently, in 2013, DeBrandon Jurrod Dickerson, 22, of Detroit, had broken into this exact same residence. He was a teenager back then and he had attempted the home invasion with the assistance of another teenager. The female homeowner had a firearm then, as well, and shot either him or his accomplice in the arm. Both teenagers were arrested at the scene of the crime.
So Dickerson apparently didnt learn his lesson. On Thursday, WHIO is rushing to confirm but initial speculation is that it is the same homeowner, same house, and same culprit as last time. As if making an unsuccessful home invasion at 4:10 am almost precisely two years to the anniversary of the last time you did the same thing wasnt lesson enough.
This was Dickersons last attempt. He was shot at close range in the chest by the home owner and confirmed dead by the Montgomery County Coroners office.
Dayton Police Homicide Division Supervisor Sgt. Richard Blommel confirmed that DPD was first contacted by the woman when she reported that an intruder had gained access via the second story of the home. The intruder confronted the woman and he was then shot. Authorities confirm that even after the bullet struck his chest, he managed to escape back out through the second story and run three blocks before dying.
Sgt. Blommel reported that the woman had been brought in for questioning but charges are not expected to be filed against her mainly due to the fact it was a clear-cut case of self-defense.
You have a right to protect yourself if you fear for the safety of yourself and or your family, Blommel said to WHIO.
Second times the charm, right? Im pretty sure thats not how that saying goes.
Lesson of the day for criminals: If you attempt to burglarize someones home and you are shot and you survive, dont go back and try it again
Wait, wait, wait
What am I saying? Please do. This is working out extremely well. Just try not to bleed out on the carpet too much on your way out for your final 300 yard sprint to the finish line.
Don’t you love a Monday feel good story.
I read it as, “There goes that cure for cancer that would’ve replaced gasoline as an energy source.”
Sounds as if the homeowner learned.
#Black Names Matter!
I like your interpretation.
That she did.
I’m sure he was a good boy and was turning his life around. In fact he was probably only there to return the things that he’d stolen before.
A 22yo male in the hood has a likelihood of being a baby daddy approaching 1.0. No Darwin for him...
I had the same thought. This wasn’t a coincidence. He was coming for revenge.
Sure sign of why the "White Privilege" crowd has a leg to stand on - no White will be burdened with such a name.
H.L. Mencken reported on the originality and fecundity of names among lower class blacks in 1930’s. Middle class blacks (and there were lots of them) named their children the same way as middle class whites. In Baltimore’s charity hospitals, bored interns and nurses encouraged mothers to adopt names from the medical lexicon like placenta, pustule, embolism, etc.
But karma intervened.
How is it possible that anyone could mess up so badly, with a classy name like “DeBrandon Jurrod”?
And he was just about to release his first rap album.
“I am so happy”
That was my first thought too. Thank God, she was able to defend herself.
I wonder where the perpetrator falls on the visible spectrum.
That was my thought as well, this guy was coming for revenge. The article mentioned it was almost the exact night of the anniversary of the prior shooting. Problem solved and problem staying solved.
I don’t know what they owned but this guy was dying to get it!
Technically we can’t know if he’s Darwin-eligible until we’re sure he hasn’t bred, but dammit, he has my vote!
As far as voting goes he’s now a registered democrat...
I know it’s naïve of me to ask, but why wasn’t this guy still in jail from the first burglary?
