I temember them as well. They were in a mens magazine which I bought for the interesting articles and I just happen to glance at them as I was turning the pages while reading the articles.

It took that long for the culture to degrade sufficiently. Now that it's an utter cesspool, from the vantage of which "nude photos" are no longer offensive to the general public.

But we used to be a decent and respectable country.

We are nowhere near done revising history in order to placate the gay lobby.

She got what she deserved back then and no apology should have been made.
Miss America should set an example for young women.

Exactly, she broke the rules of the contract she signed for the contest.

This was a really big deal at Syracuse U when I was there in 84-85. She was a Junior at SU when she won. I still remember we had her picture from Penthouse on our kitchen fridge(6 guys in a house). That magazine issue sold extremely well in the Syracuse market.

They were some pretty steamy lesbian stuff.

I have never seen them, but if this characterization is true, I bet that is the reason for the apology. The Gay Mafia has given them the "nice pagent you have there..." talk.

Mondale should have picked Vanessa Williams as a running mate instead of Geraldine Ferraro.

It’s pretty simple: She signed a contract that had a morality clause, stating that she has done nothing or will do nothing that will embarrass the organization. She lied by signing it, fully knowing that those pictures were out there. When they became public, she HAD to be dismissed.

I know a couple of women who were Miss America contestants in the ‘90s (my wife worked at a dance school that had programs for teaching beauty contestants talent). They were commenting last night on Facebook that there is no way that an apology should have been issued, knowing the circumstances of the contract. Their fear is that now the contract means nothing, and any contestant can violate it at any time now. A precedence has been set.

This was a very bad move on the part of the Miss America organization.

Pretty woman but what was that thing she was wearing?

And who told her she could sing?

“Those were not tasteful nude photos. They were rather explicit, and involved another woman”

You are being charitable. They were porn. Beautiful subject. Exhibition quality pictures, but nevertheless porn.

No woman with brains or morals would allow herself to be photographed as she was.

Unlike in 1984, today the Miss America pageant needs Vanessa Williams more than she needs them. They brought her back to apologize live on the air for the publicity and the ratings—they got the former but I don’t know how many people watched the live broadcast. Ratings have been dropping for years.

Sometimes you have to pay big time for bad choices.

In Williams' case, she's probably enjoyed more post-pageant success than any other winner. In fact, I can't even name another Miss America winner.

Yes, I heard that one too. Then he would have had a running mate who could have really licked Bush.
