Better late than never.
Actress and singer Vanessa Williams returned to the Miss America stage Sunday night, three decades after she became the first black woman to win the crown but resigned following a nude photo scandal.
...the Miss America CEO apologized to Williams on stage Sunday at the Miss America 2016 pageant for the way the scandal was handled.

Maybe an apology was due, I don't know. I remember when that all hit the fan in '84.
I’ve seen the photos that got her in trouble. They were some pretty steamy lesbian stuff. She’s a beautiful woman though and I admire her. She seems like a nice lady.
She did just fine without them. Maybe even better....
She helped the Miss America contest jump the shark.
Well she probably got better pub from the “scandal” anyway. She was able to parlay this into some decent acting gigs.
Nowadays I don’t think some nudie pictures would make a big difference. Might even help.
Williams made a foolish choice, and has to live with that. It's not a big deal (nobody got shot, for example), but either an organization has standards, or it doesn't.
I cared as mush then as I do now.
I watched and it was a nice tribute to her but the questions the contestants got were liberally slanted.
The funniest was Miss Colorado recommending that Ellen Degeneris be placed on the $10 bill! LOL - guess she’s been smoking some of that mind numbing week .
“I remember when that all hit the fan in ‘84. “
i remember the pictures, just sayin’ (cough)
What apology?
I like her, but she failed disclose those photos and that certainly violated the terms, conditions and SPIRIT o fthe Miss America pageant.
It was HER mistake, not the Miss America organization’s.
SHE should be the one apologizing.
I would support putting Ellen Degenerates on the three dollar bill.
Those pictures were repulsive and she should have been canned. No apology was necessary, imo. Sometimes you have to pay big time for bad choices.
She’s a wonderful lady and has done quite a lot to redeem and endear herself to the country in the ensuing years. But the pictures and her conduct in allowing them to be taken certainly didn’t fit the image, the values and the persona the pageant held at the time. Rightly or wrongly, the values and standards existed as they were for the time.
Given the debasing of morality in the years since, of course everyone thinks what she did shouldn’t have been singled out and punished - it’s what liberals and elites are good at doing..
After all, we’ve been told over 20 years ago “a bl@w job” really isn’t sex at all - why, it’s just a form of ‘conversation’ or ‘innocent social interaction’ or something.
We have a law called Ex Post Facto or something like that. It means a person can’t be charged ‘after the fact’ of a law’s instantiation (e.g., be charged for an act committed before the law’s enactment). Somehow, liberals and heart bleeders think we ought to apply this law in the reverse. Ergo, the apology I guess. Okay we all feel better now.
We each live in our own individual time lines according to the norm. We do and act and respond according to prevailing mores and attitudes and take our licks. Do overs are for sissies.
That said, Vanessa, you’re still a delightful lady and what you’ve done since doesn’t need legitimization. To my mind, I’d forgotten all that. This apology just dredges all that up again.
Excellent comment! But in today's society, everyone is an innocent victim.
LOL - good one!
"In obedience to the state religion of no-religion-allowed, we should have remembered that the right to make a fool of yourself in nekkid pictures and corrupt the young (and yourself) must be protected above all else. Otherwise, how do we expect young ladies in your position to get that millstone hung around your neck?"
She broke the rules and gets an apology. Porn is the new ideal?
“We do and act and respond according to prevailing mores and attitudes and take our licks.”
Is that a joke?
Take it however you want.
