Syria conflict: No sign of Assad regime crumbling
BBC News ^ | 9/14/2015 | Jeremy Bowen

Predictions of the imminent, or even medium-term fall of Damascus are wrong.

It does not feel like the capital of a regime that is about to crumble.

The government-held areas that I have visited seem calm and functional. The ministry of defence, behind heavy layers of security, moves at a stately pace. The regime has deployed some of its strongest units in Damascus because keeping the capital is so important to it.

The troops I met seemed to have good morale, in cohesive units. Their kit and weapons were well looked after; so were their positions.

What is the major concern about the Assad Regime? What is their big no-no that the US Administration wants them defeated to the point it has joined the side of ‘rebels’ of dubious provenance? That is to say ‘rebels’ of whom we can’t be certain are not ISIS, ISIS, Al Qaeda or just your average Muslim Jihadist zealot?

The reality is this is the Arab Middle East. When is the last time there was an arab opposition force to any tribal tyrant in the Arab Middle East that fought for a democratic and non islamic government. The answer “never” comes to mind. The so called “moderate” fighting forces that the media would have us believe once existed in Syria may not have been so moderate after all as many of them melted into al qaeda based al nusra or Isis to get Assad out.The reality in this part of the word is the game of musical tyrants. Our choice it to pick one that is least hostile to vital American national interests and try to temper him while he keeps a lid on the festering garbage can of tribal and religious rivalries that is the Arab Middle East.Among the major players, Assad, alqaeda based al nusra and Isis, my money is on Assad primarily because Assad does not pose the terrorist threat directly to the US that al qaeda and ISIS do.Unless of course we want to commit American troops to Syria to make the world safe for democracy.Iraq may be testimony as to how poorly that could work put.

Ending Assad’s leadership will give way to ISIS takeover. This is very dangerous.

Title: "Syria conflict: No sign of Assad regime crumbling"

Key Quote: "The regime has deployed some of its strongest units in Damascus because keeping the capital is so important to it."

A regime required to turn its capital into an armed camp is not secure.

B0, Valerie Jarett and Hillary wanted to remove Assad and install their arab spring muslim brotherhood cronies.

They figured that it would only take a couple weeks of bombing and like with Gaddafi. Supporting ISIS along with Saudi Arabia was probably part of their plan.

They figured wrong and stepped in it because Russia has an interest in defending its property. Now it is Syria Russia and Iran against ISIS and what are we supposed to do? Supply air cover?

This is lining up very badly. Or very well if you are a proponent of the new Caliphate. Some envision an alliance of Iran and Turkey coming up.

Yes. Agree. It is lining up badly because we have a Muslim Zealot for a President.

Assad is the lesser of evils, but Barry and his ilk are backing the rebels (a.k.a. ISIS) in Syria, and the rest of the M.E. causing a humanitarian crisis, the resultant influx of immigrants to the rest of the world will hasten the spread of Islam in those areas.

Syria, China, Russia, and Iran vs ISIS... No restrictive ROE, no care in the world about collateral damage.

So what this seems to me is that Obama isn’t interested in relative peace and international security (i.e, Syria maybe not a sponsor of international terrorism?) but in foment dissent and unrest so that unbridled jihadist Islam can flourish. Given what he did in Libya and in Eqypt, how could one think any differently. There is something very fundamentally wrong with our President. I submit it is his hatred of this country and his ingrained Islam religious formative years. The man IS a Muslim.

It does look like a lot of ISIS fighters are walking to Europe. Will that take pressure off the Assad regime?

The timing is interesting. Russia moves in to help Syria, and hundreds of thousands of fighting-age men decide to walk to Europe.

So while Putin is walking in their front door, they have already left home and are coming in his back door.
