Arguably some of both. I realize many here disagree, and he had his shortcomings, but I thought Perry was a pretty good governor. ESPECIALLY in relation to some of the other useless pieces of ‘rat crap we’ve been stuck with.
Perry’s position on immigration alone is enough reason not to have him near the presidency.
And yeah, I agree with the usual knock—he just doesn’t seem very bright.

He likes to claim the mantle of Reagan, when during the entire presidency of Reagan he was a democrat, who worked for Algore’s campaign in 1988. That proves he’s not too bright.
Would you have liked him more or less if he had succeeded in his attempt to have France build the Trans Texas Corridor?
Perry became a republican after Reagan left office.

He is a former governor. Most people outside of Texas and a lot of people in Texas are not aware of our particular governmental structure. Our Governor, unlike most states, don’t have as much power or authority so it’s often difficult to assess whether or not they are as “bright” or capable as their counterparts in other states.

Anyone could have taken the same immigration stance that Trump did with equal success. Now it is much too late for anyone to attempt to adopt Trump's stance on immigration because no one would believe them, nor should they.
Well said. That Gardasil goof-up really made me suspicious of him (as well as my relatives in Texas). It really proved that he had no concept of the meaning of the Constitution, or was just corrupt and being controlled by Big Pharma. It was a major eye-opener for us and the “trust” was breached.
Perry destroyed his campaign by adopting an early strategy of trashing Trump in very harsh terms rather than effectively presenting his own ideas. Folks weren’ interested.
The Reagan wave in Texas came about after Reagan left office and during the Clinton presidency. Remember Texas was a democrat state until the the entire legislature was taken during the end of Richard’s era and GW getting elected. We had a couple democrat governors along the way but Texas was held by old school southern democrats for along time.
Perry was campaigning and buying ads in Iowa for months before Trump got in. He was getting absolutely no traction when Trump wasn’t around. Michele Bachmann redux.
- He invited Muslim imams into Texas schools to teach kids Islam.
- Let's not forget he was the TX chair for the Al Gore campaign.
- He did a crappy job on the border leading to the mess we have now.
- He attended one of the Bilderburg meetings. Maybe some of those old homos thought he was cute.
For some reason Brad Thor endorsed Perry early on. Dumb move, Brad.
The first significant exposure he got nationally he used to trash Trump in some of the harshest words used by any of the Trump trashers. He lost what little support he had at the time. The same for Lindsey Graham. Those two were the first to try the trash Trump tactic and both lost support.
Most pay little attention to early Iowa activities.
That figures. No wonder Perry can’t figure out who he is.
