So, the word is that Carly Fiorina and/or another half dozen participants in tonight's debate are planning to go after Trump.
Bad move. I say this as a Cruz supporter.
Trump isn't going away, and even if he wounds himself, as Perot did in 1992 by getting out and getting in again, he still has a lot of supporters who won't be moved, who are committed to Brand Trump.
You don't set yourself up to be the Anti-Trump by bashing Trump, you set yourself up to be the "Not Trump" solution by letting someone else try to go against him.
Jindal showed us what happens. It is sort of like when Superman busts through the wall on the hold up men, and they unload their Tommy Guns on him. It doesn't work. The bullets bounce of his chest (don't contradict me with physics, it's in all of the comic books).
No, it is better to let henchmen unload the Tommyguns while the Toyman or Prankster sneaks off to face off another day on better terms.
Now, as a Cruz supporter, I don't intend to cast Trump as Superman, but he likes playing the part.
At some point, this race is going to narrow down to three or four candidates, with two dominating. Right now those two are Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson.
Even the 1% of Perry supporters who have to pick someone new is significant, if your man is sitting at 6% or 7%. Those votes could go to Cruz (another Texan), Walker (another governor) or Rubio (good hair). If Rand Paul decides that he is going to go kamikaze, someone will get the votes out of his decaying carcass, and it won't be Trump. Assuming that Walker is staying in it for the time being (he seems to be retooling, and will at least stick it out until Iowa, if he believes his own reported internal polling; he only must do better than expected), Jindal and Rand Paul seem to be the next to drop out or become inconsequential, falling into Gilmore and Pataki land.
That means the attacks should be made, obliquely perhaps, on John Ellis Bush. It is important to get him to drop out as early as possible. We need him to be Giuliani, not Romney, who stuck around long enough to let the rest knock each other out.
I don't trust Donald Trump, but when a force is unleashed, and you cannot stop it or even contain it, you may as well make use of it by directing it towards your enemies. Ted Cruz has set the tone. Laud Mr. Trump for what he does good. Defend his right to make his case for our votes. Work together towards common goals. Stopping the Iran deal was a sound common goal. Stopping John Ellis Bush is another. Whittle this thing down to Trump, Cruz and Carson and we can settle remaining differences then.

VANITY-
Donald trump should say to fiorina if she attacks him....” you are the face of the republican establishment”
I promise not to “over after Trump in the debate”.
Why it is foolish to over after Trump in the debate WTF?
And Rubio doesn’t have good hair—it’s limp and thinning!
Then forget about a debate. Let’s just hold separate press conferences.
nad = and
Ah, thanks.
(I thought that’s what you meant, but not until I’d read the thing.)
Going after Trump is going after his supporters. There is nothing to toss at Trump that isn’t already known. He’s been in the public eye, both in the business world and in entertainment, for over 30 years!
So what will they hit him with? Nothing but petty belittling, which again will do nothing but p*ss off his supporters, whom are ACTIVE online, while their miniscule support base is likely consisting of people that still have landlines and rabbit ears for their televisions.
The really big mistake the GOPe is making by mustering all of its forces, including a platoon of nothing-burger candidates and a gaggle of phoney-conservative PACs, is that nuking TRUMP is a scorched earth policy. They do not appear to understand that any establishment candidate they might squeak through the primaries will lose in a landslide because they terminally pissed of 40% of their base, but also that they will lose the down-ticket across the board, including Congress, the Governors, and the State houses, because the base will stay home.
Yes, I know the money-people behind the GOPe won’t care because they’ve simply bought ALL the politicians on both sides of the aisle anyway, so THEY can’t lose no matter what happens, but you’d think that GOPe party apparatus and their other candidates WOULD care about losing. Perhaps the GOPe REALLY is the stupid party, after all.
It will be an all out war on Trump!
Agreed, do not go after him for his ridiculous blowhard personality. But disagree in do go after him for his ridiculous statements. Trump’s big mouth and shoot from the hip speeches provide plenty of vulnerabilities and Cruz should question him.
How exactly are you going to end birthright citizenship? By an executive order like Hussein does?
How are you going to freeze funds going into Mexico to get them to build a border wall? Are you going to stop all commerce between the two countries?
How are you going to get Ford not to build their plant in Mexico? Can you impose a 30% tariff on their cars by yourself as President? What if Mexico retaliates by imposing a 50% tariff on US goods and services?
What is your latest view on government funding for Planned Parenthood? Do we have to fund them because you think they provide needed health services to women and they only get 3% of their revenue from abortion?
If Trump’s answer is to say that Cruz is a terrible person and a third rate senator then so be it.
I’m glad I’m the only one who sees the obvious comb over.
