The real story behind Trump's Florida gaming obsession

Jeb Bush was ready to counterpunch at Wednesday night’s debate when asked about Donald Trump’s statement that politicians could be bought. "The one guy that had some special interests that I know of that tried to get me to change my views on something—that was generous and gave me money—was Donald Trump," Bush said. "He wanted casino gambling in Florida."

That’s when Trump cut him off—and failed to tell the truth. “I didn't,” Trump said.

He and his company have repeatedly been on record trying to get casino deals in one form or another in Florida. From hiring lobbyists to taking a former business partner to court, Trump’s interest in getting a piece of Florida’s gaming industry has been documented in news articles from Tallahassee to Miami. Trump’s involvement in expanding Florida gaming—an effort that regularly fails in the state Capitol due to the influence of conservative lawmakers—is well-known among state capital reporters, politicians and lobbyists alike.

Here’s where we agree.... I HOPE Cruz is our next president. That would be the best outcome for our country I think.

Bush said Trump gave him money. Trump didn’t.

Bush lied.

And no, Trump’s not an angel. Neither are pols.

What potential next president’s character do you like better? (And no, I don’t count Cruz, ‘cause he doesn’t have a prayer this round.)

We really ought to try to dig up more details before jumping to any kind of conclusion.

And what happened to the larger point. Trump is saying he doesn’t want to see politicians being bought. And to be fair, it looks like Trump failed to buy Jeb if he did try. So just what does Trump propose to do about the matter if elected.

Count out Ted Cruz at your own risk.

The candidate from New York..in a ONE on ONE with Senator Cruz would get his very CLOCK CLEANED!!

If this is a “grudge” it’s the most elaborate “grudge” and the most poll winning “grudge” that America has seen for a long time.

Face it: for all his faults, Trump is schooling a lot of “right wingers” in how it ought to look.

Argh, as if anyone would let the two face each other over a MSM microphone. We wish.

However there is something to be said for being able to get large amounts of voter interest even before spending obscene amounts on publicity. That’s doing it right in at least some way.

There’s so much more than that to winning over people, however.

Cruz only supports it [H-1B] if salary requirements increase.

I Googled but couldn't verify this claim; what's your source?

I heard Senator Cruz say it on a radio news show going over quotes of the day. But here is at least one link:

Nothing there about salary requirements - only a modest increase in fees for the employer.

Ted Cruz exudes.... the sort of simple authenticity that ihe Prospective Candidate from NYC doesnt even know exists..

thats a pretty winning strategy without it even being a strategy.

Sorry—conveying authenticity is Cruz’s problem—and Trump’s strength.

Totally agree with you.

The man is a juvenile buffoon and liar as well...who by the way, sports the same foreign policy as KingPutt did when running for office. The policy is “golly gee, I’m so likable, that I’ll just sit down with those foreign folks, have a chat and we’ll all be pooping ponies, rainbows and singing kumbaya.”
