This is the ad that could sink Carly Fiorina’s campaign
Washington Post ^ | 9/17/15 | Chris Cillizza

Carly Fiorina is the new "it" candidate in the Republican presidential field, following a second straight sterling debate performance at the Ronald Reagan presidential library Wednesday night.

But there was a moment in the debate that previewed a major potential weakness for Fiorina. It came when moderator Jake Tapper noted that Donald Trump had said Fiorina "ran HP into the ground" during her time as CEO. Fiorina responded, "I led Hewlett Packard through a very difficult time, the worst technology recession in 25 years," adding: "We had to make tough choices, and in doing so, we saved 80,000 jobs, went on to grow to 160,000 jobs."

Trump -- and Tapper -- largely let the issue drop. But Fiorina's past political history suggests that her struggles at HP could be a campaign killer.

In 2010, Fiorina was running surprisingly close to California Sen. Barbara Boxer (D), who was struggling in a strong election cycle for Republicans nationally. Then, Boxer ran this ad focused on Fiorina's time at the helm of HP.

The commercial notes that Fiorina laid off 30,000 workers at HP while feathering her own nest (the ad's narrator says she tripled her salary) and buying a "million-dollar yacht" and "five corporate jets." It went up on TV in the middle of September and effectively ended Fiorina's chances.

Look at this chart, via Real Clear Politics, documenting the polling averages for the entirety of the Boxer-Fiorina contest.

See how the red line starts dropping precipitously right around mid-September? That's not a coincidence. The ad functioned as a sort of knock-out punch for Boxer even in a year where Republicans claimed victories all across the country.

Thanks for sharing... it’s hard to get the truth when democrats and their shills in the MSM work together... They’re all liars - Hillary on up - and down... the line.

Carly will sink herself.

“There is no job that is America’s God-given right anymore.”

Yep, keep lying to Congress that there aren’t enough out of work/underemployed tech sector workers and keep bringing in low cost visa workers or smuggle the million dollar software goods in on the internet and don’t pay any import duty on it.

Mark Levin remarked that he endorsed Devore for Senator over Fiorino in the CA Repub primary.

Oh, it’s “Himself” now is it? Capital H and all....so he is godlike to his disciples...good grief.

By the way, Fiorina isn’t my choice, but that doesn’t change the fact that she whipped him silly in the debate.

As much as I utterly despise that foul creature named Boxer, anyone who was paying attention could have told you the Democrats would’ve run these ads, and they’re true. Kicking red blooded Americans out of their jobs and holding their severance to force them to train their sweaty unshowered sub-par not even barely competent third world invader replacements is un-American, period. I would rather die of aggressive bone cancer than ever give my suppport to Fiorina. She is my enemy.

Geez, don't hold back, Mr. Rabbit.

Tell us what you REALLY think. :)

once Trump is challenged by someone who knows what they’re talking about

Looking forward to that actually happening. If you're speaking of FioRINO, try again. She has NO IDEA what she's talking about.

But he’s a policy lightweight.

I'm not as worried about Trump's ability to learn/brush up on policy as I am about a career politician or paid speaker trying to learn how to negotiate with the likes of Iran, Putin or Congress.

Which one of these candidates have ever had to put their name on the bottom line and sign the FRONT of the checks? (Not Carly, she had CFOs/Controllers to do that for her.)

We've seen what these career politicos have done to the country (given 0blama everything he's asked for, NO border security, NO PP defunding, Sanctuary cities, deficits, etc) and what paid speaker Carly has done to destroy TWO companies.

No thanks.

In my opinion, Trumps bankruptcies are worse and his stance on Kelo is very, very troubling to me.

But all in all, I am with Christie on this. Its a silly argument now and has always been a silly leftist argument whether it is against Bain Capital, Ross Perot or anyone else who is successful in our capitalist society .

Wouldn't Fiorina be good at downsizing Fedzilla?

Just asking.

A proud disciple of Hagel circa 2001, this is the last person we need to lead us.

Now her favorite mode of operation is gender politics.

This woman is an idiot.

Is she better than Cruz?

Tell this person to sit down and STFU.

She has no accomplishments whatsoever.

I'm Scots, he's Scots. Being a bit more well-read than Yourself, I can take liberties with the language.

I'm reading a series now that dispenses voluminous 18th century Scots & English dialect and usage.

"Himself" usually referred to a laird, or suchlike. I'm pretty talented and competent, but I think Trump has got me in a few areas of achievement.

BTW - us Highlanders consider the Norse to be candy-arsed sissies.

Bend the knee to the MacLeod, Norseboy, an he might na take your heid.

Amen to that. I sussed that she would be another globalist oligarch sock puppet who would parlay her anti-russky knee jerk into WWIII and a feudal warlord debt banker fascist dark age.

She’s definitely been recruited to do just that. I bet you’d find some Lois Lerner ties if you poked around. Hillary ties, too, and Jarrett if you dig enough.
