"You represent so much. You represent the future. You represent something very important," he said.
URBANDALE, Iowa | Donald Trumps advice for high school students in suburban Des Moines, Iowa, is uncharacteristically wholesome: Avoid alcohol and drugs as well as cigarettes.
The billionaire businessman and Republican presidential candidate is also encouraging the teens to follow their hearts and do something they love, even if it means making less money.
You represent so much. You represent the future. You represent something very important, he said.
Trump offered his views Saturday night in the parking lot of Urbandale High School as he addressed a group of students dressed in sparkly mini dresses and suspenders and bowties ahead of their fall homecoming dance. A social media campaign brought him to the celebration and hundreds of students, parents and others turned out to hear him.

I wonder if Mr Trump understands that many,*many* of kids today love playing video games in Mom & Dad’s basement.Including when they’re 30.
It sounds like Mr. Trump is suggesting they try for more than that. It’s called leadership, and it’s what we desperately need.
Ditto That!
We should teach that math really isn’t all that hard, learning is addictive and fun. Instead we’ve got Common Core.
Common core math eludes me,
but so did the New Math of the 1970s.
Luckily, I got most of my math
learned in the fifties.
Not knocking Trump specifically, but I hate that trite bit of “follow your heart” cr@p. God gave us brains and the promise that we could have wisdom if we pursued it. One’s heart is not a good guide. No wonder kids aren’t happy - they follow their hearts as they have been told and then wind up in a less than optimal situation. Well, duh.
Sometimes, unfortunately, adult offspring are forced (cursed) to support non self-supporting parent(s). Most carry that burden with grace.
A tiny few are your “basement dwellers” and are not even close to being considered “normal”.
Obviously we run in very different social circles.
Didn’t Pelosi tell them ‘you don’t have to work at a job you don’t like. We’ll take care of you’?
There are some people who know what they want to be at a very early age. Rush Limbaugh was one. He used to play at being a Cardinal’s announcer. Arnold Schwarzenegger is another. He had his path charted out when he was a teenager. So was Trump.
Trump is just telling the path he followed. You can’t really fault him for that.
Trump needs to stand with the high school kids and fight the dreary lunches they’re being few.
Even if it’s ‘healthy’ it doesn’t matter if most of it ends up in the garbage.
As I said, I’m not specifically knocking Trump, but I can guarantee that he and his family put a lot of thought into where he was going and how he was going to get there.
The name Hilton comes to mind.
Trump chose his path himself. He wouldn't be as good as it as he is if he had just done what his daddy wanted him to do.
The MSM completely ignored the fact that Trump went to this HS in Urbandale on Saturday Night when no other candidate even bothered to respond.
Instead, they are busy with some manufactured muslim outrage.
And they also ignored the fact that Hillary stiffed a bunch of grade school kids. Left them crying.
Again, some plant throws out a question and the media is in hysterics. All other news comes to a halt.
But there is no media bias.
It doesn’t take a genius to teach math. There is a very logical way to approach each level of math attaching it to real world applications. If someone as dumb as I can see it, why can’t these geniuses.
I prefer Trump to Hillary or Obama. But I prefer Cruz Jindal Carly Walker Rubio Huck Lindsey Santorum Carson and maybe two or three more to Trump. Biggest problem is that we would get wiped out if he is the nominee. It is almost a lock that he would do worse than any Pubbie since Goldwater...
I had a small tutoring business for a number of years to put my kids through private high school. Some of the kids brought their math homework to get help.
I honestly wound up thinking that they did everything possible to make math as confusing as they possibly could - it was convoluted and difficult to follow. No wonder they were frustrated.
Are you delusional? All those you mentioned are sure to get wiped out by the Democrats. Trump is the only one who is a viable candidate at this point. Cruz is my second choice, but isn’t doing too well in the polls right now.
