CNN Confronts Donald Trump: 'Do You Not Have A Responsibility To Call Out This Hatred?'

CNN anchor Jake Tapper confronted Donald Trump on Sunday for placating a supporter who spouted anti-Muslim conspiracy theories.

At a Thursday town-hall event, a man presented multiple inflammatory claims to Trump, including the widely debunked allegation that President Barack Obama is a Muslim.

But Tapper bluntly pressed Trump on the man's broader declaration that Muslims were a "problem."

"You're not responsible for what he says, but this is raw, unvarnished, ignorant bigotry," Tapper said. "You are a leader. You are the front-runner in the Republican race. Do you not have a responsibility to call out this hatred?"

Trump suggested that the CNN "State of the Union" host was simply trying to be "politically correct" and defended the idea that some Muslims were a serious problem.

"I have friends that are Muslims," the real-estate mogul said. "They're great people, amazing people. And most Muslims — like most everything — I mean, these are fabulous people. But we certainly do have a problem."

"What's the problem?" Tapper asked.

How many liberals have said something like:

We have a problem in this country, and they are called Conservatives.

But, of course, the MSM never calls them on that.

Why is it hatred to say that someone is a religious man?

My response:

What’s wrong with being a Muslim? What are you, a bigot?

Great point! Hope Trump and Carson see this and say this.

"What's the problem?" Tapper asked.

I seem to recall from another thread that Trump replied with something like:

"It wasn't the Swedish that took out the twin towers"

Game set and match to Trump.

I believe Obama is agnostic, abandoned by his muslim father, to be raised in a muslim society & school by his stepfather.

Later raised by pro-communist atheist grandparents & Frank Marshall David. Grew to have deep anti-English colonialism hatred.

Introduced to Black Liberation Theology, with a mix of Christianity & muslim sympathies by Mr. Wright.

Just look at Barack's muslim vs Christian quotes and there is no denying where his allegiance falls.

Never a good word for/about Christians, but always sympathies, excuses & lies about muslims.

Mister Tapper - doesn’t the media have a responsibility to report the truth in an unbiased manner, covering all the stories and not just picking and choosing based on the message you’d prefer to report? Where are the reports on the lack of push back from “peace loving muslims” against the radical muslims.

They conveniently leave out the Training Camp part of the question. Otherwise it wouldn’t fit their racist mantra.

You got it. Too bad so many are saying “If candidate X doesn’t match my idea of a Prefect Conservative I will sit out the election.” That’s what got us this eight year Obamanation.

Thanks for posting this. It’s spot on, particularly about using against us those virtues we value, like ‘fairness’.

The typical Republican response to these tactics has been to either ‘apologize’, attempt to have a respectful discussion with those doing the mudslinging, or to ignore the attacks, and these approaches have not been effective.

including the widely debunked allegation that President Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Who did the "debunking," and how "widely," was it done?

If CNN is just taking 0bama's word for it, then CNN I have some wonderful beach front property in NE to sell you.

No, the typical Republican responses to those hurling epithets intended to intimidate, is to flounder around trying to appease the anger, whether feigned or misguided; or, as you also suggest, hope that it will simply go away. Of course tactics that seem to work for those who have no actual rational argument, will not just go away--whether because they are appeased or ignored.

The sad fact is, that most of our Republican strategists do not have a confident understanding of the relevant dynamics of human interaction--and are often, if not usually, too focused on concerns not really relevant to the war on our heritage. To those who see the full historic context of what is going on, there is nothing more important than dealing--countering--that war on heritage.

The media goes after anyone with a R as in republican. It's their motto. Trump seems to handle them pretty well so far. Carson isn't backing down either. I expect this because it always seems to be the their job. Who makes me mad is lapdog Lindsay Graham and others like him joining in on the subject to pile on, as he has toward Carson! Who's worse? GOPe or media. Sorry GOPe is ,in my opinion.

“What’s the problem?” Tapper asked. (from article)

The problem with that question is that it is hard to know where to begin. It also reveals tons about Jake Tapper, none good.

Until the new “arrivals” start tossing the “rainbow people” off of tall buildings in N.Y. or L.A., the left sees no problem.

Even then; they'll blame the Tea-Party/Trump supporters.
