Walker quits after blowing through campaign cash
Politico ^ | 9/21/15 | ELI STOKOLS

Scott Walker decided to end his 2016 campaign after burning through cash and disappointing donors who thought the one-time frontrunner would be one of the last men standing this primary season.

-snip-

For several weeks, Walker’s donors have been grumbling about the campaign’s downward spiral in the polls, with many pointing their fingers at campaign manager Rick Wiley, who was saddled with the blame for the campaign’s overspending — the staff had ballooned to 90 people — and for the candidate's shortcomings. According to a source familiar with the campaign's operations, donors lost confidence in the campaign operation as Walker began his uninterrupted slide. Many donors informed the campaign they weren’t writing more checks until organizational changes were made and some began to hedge their bets by contributing to other campaigns.

As far as I am concerned the title should be:

“Walker Quits After Blowing Through Common Decency”

Why do I say that? Because the decent thing for him (and Perry by the way) to do was to either come out and endorse another Republican candidate OR say he was not going to endorse at this time but will honor his pledge to support whomever the nominee happens to be.

Since Walker has been saying over and over how the Republican nominee should be a “Governor” he certainly could have endorsed either Cristie, Huckabee, Jindal,Kasich or Jeb. But instead he told others who are polling low to back out and join him to help the remaining candidates to work together to take out Donald Trump! Walker wins the political bully award for sure!

Now we all know that Rick Perry and Scott Walker made a “pledge” they won't honor if Donald Trump ends up being the nominee! No common decency there!!

Excellent post, Seek the Truth...and spot on.

Aside from the political aspects, Walker obviously doesn't know that Americans in general and conservatives in particular don't like sour grapes and sore losers.

His remarks upon quitting the race without dignity has left a bad taste in the mouths of many folks and I'm certain this petulant foolishness will haunt him for the rest of his political life.

My thought... if you asked people at random across the country if they could name one candidate in the GOP field apart from Trump and Bush, you’ll come up blanks. Name recognition bias and fame is certainly part of it but the main reason, if you’re not already well known on the national level, you have to really sell yourself to make it to the big leagues.

Oh sure, there were nobodies like Carter and Obama whom no one heard of before when they burst into national prominence but they’re exceptions to the rule. Politics is unforgiving and if you don’t know how to weather the waves, you get can get towed underneath and drown. That’s what happened to Walker - he never had a good feel for them and once he ceased mastering them, it was inevitable that he was never going to ride them to the top.

With Trump, he’s unique because he already has name recognition. The man is a brand and every one in the country has heard about him. He’s managed to get going and although his poll ratings have leveled out, it hasn’t really been disastrous. And he knows where the public is at. Trump knows how to manage his time well and what separates him from the field - is that he runs his campaign - not a manager, not consultants and not advisers. He really is his own man.

My thought basically is this: the success of Trump vs the downfall of Walker comes down to one thing: you can either run your campaign as only The Donald himself can run it, or in Walker case, you can let your campaign run you and bury you alive. When you come right to down it again, that could be the critical difference between success and failure on the national stage.

People need to pay as much respect, if not more to how Trump is in the head of things as they are commiserating over how Walker couldn’t seem to find the right path to the presidency.

Walker, like many conservatives, sometimes seems too much in love with the romance of politics and is therefore prone to becoming emotional at reverses and losses.

Probably very true, but I have lost all respect for Walker due to his statement. I would still have respect for him if he had backed out endorsing someone OR just said he wasn’t going to endorse at this time. But instead, he calls on the rest to join him as a gang to work together to take out Donald Trump! So will he honor the “pledge” if Trump is the nominee?? His statements say NO!

Words come to mind like sore loser, GOP good boy, dishonest and lacking common decency for sure!

We’ll be seeing this about a dozen more times, as each candidate drops out and urges the rest to band together to defeat the enemy (Trump) while ignoring the Hillary coronation that’s going on next door.

The GOP pledge will be ripped to shreds by each one as these losers go full-bore Alinsky (make your opponent a follow their own rules, but you can ignore them).

I’m glad that Walker showed us his true colors and gave us warning about the ones to come next.

Again, I don’t necessarily see it that way. I know that a lot of people here seem to think that it’s a foregone conclusion that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee and the next president. There is no reason for the other candidates to do anything but try to bring Donald Trump down. They want to be the nominee as well. Not everything is some evil conspiracy against Donald Trump. Maybe scott Walker’s true colors are just what he said. Maybe he simply wants to see an
actual conservative as the Republican nominee and he knows that does not describe Donald Trump.

Thank you. I did have respect for Scott Walker but his actions have showed me he is not a man of his word and is being another beholding GOP good boy instead of leaving with his respect intact. Poor loser comes to mind.

Now that both Rick Perry and Scott Walker have shown their lack of decency towards one of their fellow Republican candidates, you are probably correct. I have noticed that both Carson and Cruz are the only ones who have NOT trashed Donald Trump and therefore Donald has not had the need to fight then back.

Here’s hoping the lack of decency of both Perry and Walker will backfire big time as more folks come to realize that Donald Trump is telling the truth!

For your information, Trump is just as, if not more, conservative than Bush. In fact, he is more conservative when it comes to amnesty,. I’m real sick of this meme - “true conserviate,” or “actual conservative.” The term is subjective and means different things to different people. Everyone likes to compare themselves to Ronald Reagan - well, let me put it this way - Reagan wasn’t what we’d call a true conservative either if we look at his record on amnesty - he had a few other warts too, but I’ll leave that alone.

Distressing... It appears to be shaping up to GOP-insiders vs hopeful outsiders. The possible exceptions to the insiders might be Cruz and Rubio. The way Huckabee treated Cruz at the Kim Davis press flap absolutely put him beyond my symapathies. Rubio is a wait-and-see [for me.] Kasich has stunned me with his current views - more govt more of the time. Jindal's showing has been disappointing. Perhaps he will be positioned for next time. [etc., etc., etc.]

Well, I could make you a deal. You’re sick of the true conservative argument. I am sick of Jeb Bush’s name coming up literally EVERYTIME it is made. It is likely no one here, or at least few here, are planning to vote for Jeb. Jeb is irrelevant here. But the knee jerk rush to defend Trump at ALL costs is of course ever present. My only point is not everything under the sun is necessarily some nefarious plot against Trump just because.

It isn’t just Bush - it’s Rubio too. It’s apparent that you don’t read my posts - I call Trump out on things I don’t like what he says or does - I’m an equal opportunity basher. LOL

>>Not everything is some evil conspiracy against Donald Trump. Maybe scott Walker’s true colors are just what he said. Maybe he simply wants to see an

I never said it was evil. But he did call for conspiracy when he called for everyone to work together, even if it meant quitting early, to defeat the front runner.

The front runner is the person that WE, the voting public, have chosen. It isn’t up to them to defeat him en masse. If one of them grows a set of actual testicles and learns how to LEAD instead of just mumbling like an embarrassed schoolboy who got caught with a Playboy in the bathroom, then that ONE candidate can easily defeat Trump.

What kind of CONSERVATIVE calls for people to quit a race so someone else can beat the person who the voters prefer? That’s how Progressives think. All Walker needed to do was whine about faaaaaiiiirrrrrrr.
