Carson, under fire for seeming to suggest that he couldn't support anyone who subscribes to Islam to lead the White House, issued a caveat to that position on Monday evening. In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, the Republican presidential candidate said there are some Muslims who could be president if they effectively renounced their faith. "If someone has a Muslim background and they're willing to reject those tenets and to accept the way of life that we have and clearly will swear to place our Constitution above their religion ... I would then be quite willing to support them," he said. In a post on Facebook also on Monday night, Carson reiterated that position. "I could never support a candidate for President of the United States that was Muslim and had not renounced the central tenant of Islam: Sharia Law," he wrote. "I know that there are many peaceful Muslims who do not adhere to these beliefs. But until these tenants are fully renounced...I cannot advocate any Muslim candidate for President. Carson, who made the initial remark on Sunday, told Hannity that his focus on radical Islamic beliefs was "implied in the comment." "I don't care what religion or faith someone belongs to," Carson said. "If they're willing to subjugate that to the American way and to our Constitution, then I have no problem with that." Before Carson appeared on Hannity to clarify his remarks, a presidential candidate who had his own faith scrutinized as a potential barrier for fitness of office swiped at Carson's statement. "Of course, no religious test for the presidency -- every faith adds to our national character," tweeted Romney, who is Mormon.

A muslim who denounces sharia would have to be lying or they would be killed by muslims. So if a muslim candidate is alive that would speak for itself.
Actually Carson is right on target the and candidate you are hinting about thinks that some are "terrific".
.....and CNN is calling this a back track. It isn’t.
Despite everything else we have to keep going back to the choices: What follows is my order of preference at this point, but when one gets knocked out that shifts everyone else up. I’ll not vote for Hillary or Biden, nor will I fail to vote against them.
Cruz
Trump
Carson
Rubio
Santorum
Jindal
Huckabee
Paul
Christie
Fiorina
Kasich
Bush
Pataki
Graham
If it’s a lie it’s OK as long as they do it to further Islam.
Ben. They will say anything to get elected. You are too trusting.
I don’t see it as a backtrack either.
I think he is. Ben Carson is smart enough to figure out that any Muslim who renounces Sharia law isn’t really a Muslim at all. The media doesn’t want to discuss Sharia law.
There is no religious test. (We can discover what the Founders meant by this term, but the simple truth is that the people are free to choose whom they wish to govern.)
We should not have men who are compromised by allegiance to non-Christian faith systems and who will not honor their oath of office and pervert the language of the Constitution. We can exercise sound judgement and see that someone who is a “true believer” in a system which denies our cherished principals is totally unqualified for any office. (Carson started to compromise when he conceaded that a Muslim could be elected to inferior offices. This is the seed of his undoing).
Trump wouldn’t try to nuance the argument. He’d point out the simple truth — they behead people, crucify people, rape boys, etc. That’s why the media is having a fit. He doesn’t cut and run. He doubles down and comes right back at them with the undeniable truth. They’ve got nowhere to go, except to hope for his demise. (Trump had better watch his back and hire adequate physical security.)
Carson should stand firm. If he says it he should mean it.
As for your co worker... just like most people in this country, stupid, attention span of a ferret. Flavor of the day, weak minded and manipulated by the media.
Amen!

This race is Donald’s to lose. He had better take heed though. THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN UNDER DELIVERING IS TO OVER PROMISE AND THEN UNDER DELIVER OR LOSE STEAM. Donald has to have a sustainable show. If he doesn’t and someone else does the crowds will rush over to the other tent.
Someone needs to inform Dr. Carson that lying is a perfectly allowable Muslim practice, especially if it furthers the cause of Islam. So renouncing Sharia is meaningless. Just like Abedin allowed to have a Jewish baby. And you gotta wonder, where will that baby end up?
Weiner was member of House Energy and Commerce Committee — which made for some great pillow talk .........
Carson is dead right !!
Mrs. Esopman
If Ike had also been 'nazi' he would NOT have been electable... Not that it was against the law of the Constitution, but because Americans would NOT elect him.
Same with Muslims.
If a person running for office believes in Sharia law شريعة) - they are NOT going to be acceptable to American voters. Well, except brain dead liberals who tend toward 'clueless'....
“Do you even know who the current or last Surgeon General is or was?”
Dr. Vivek Murthy?
Yeah. Exactly.
Exactly what I had proposed for all of these "refugees" streaming in to various countries!
Don't ask them to identify as Muslims. They'll lie. Don't ask them to say the phrase, "May p!$$ be upon Allah's name". They'll do it as if they were lying.
Simply hand them a piece of fried bacon and tell them to eat. Done deal.
that’s what I understand and further, in some countries it would be a death sentence.
Exactly right. Getting defensive is the wrong way to go.
The left is either/or, we should be too.
The left is like, either be inclusive of people who hate America, or you’re racist.
We should respond, either support the Constitution, or get out.
The question of whether someone steeped in shariah can be president shouldn’t even be considered.
