Pope Francis takes Congress to task in its own home

Pope Francis was not afraid to critique Congress in his historic address on Capitol Hill, calling on the body to do better in several areas of political debate.

In a speech of about 40 minutes made in front of a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, the pope commended positions supported by both parties.

He nodded to the plight of immigrants and refugees, also noting the sanctity of human life "at every stage of its development" and hinting that Congress should take action to address these problems.

And, as he did on Wednesday from the White House, he explicitly called on Congress to enact legislation to help slow the effects of climate change.

"I call for a courageous and responsible effort to redirect our steps, and to avert the most serious effects of the environmental deterioration caused by human activity," Francis said.

"I am convinced that we can make a difference, and I have no doubt that the United States — and this Congress — have an important role to play."

The pontiff also dedicated a significant chunk of his address to the global migrant crisis, as debate over immigration rages in the US presidential election. He called on lawmakers to empathize with immigrants and global refugees and welcome both into the country.

"We, the people of this continent, are not fearful of foreigners, because most of us were once foreigners," Pope Francis said, according to a transcript of his prepared remarks. "I say this to you as the son of immigrants, knowing that so many of you are also descendants from immigrants."

The pope got a huge applause line from congressional Republicans when he alluded to protecting and defending human life "at every stage of its development," a line many observers took as a reference to abortion.

“I say this to you as the son of immigrants, knowing that so many of you are also descendants from immigrants.”

We are the sons of immigrants. Not Illegal invaders.
Learn the different pope.

Il Papa needs some extensive training in economics, science, politics...and just about everything else, it would appear.

As long as His Holiness gets to feel holier-than-thou, that’s the important thing.

I forget...

How many billions from the Vatican is the pope returning to the USA to help us out with the cost of bringing in illegals and destroying our economy through the Climate Change Scam?

...that's what I thought.

Lead by example; demand your home country Argentina open their doors to millions of immigrants/refugees immediately...

The Pope is a leftist political hack who toadies up to dictators like Castro but has no compunction in attacking America, the most welcoming and generous country in history. We have 42.5 million foreign born in the US, equal to the population of Argentina.

This Argentinian Pope comes from one of the least diverse places in the world:

Religion: nominally Roman Catholic 92% (less than 20% practicing), Protestant 2%, Jewish 2%, other 4%

Ethnic groups: white (mostly Spanish and Italian) 97%, mestizo (mixed white and Amerindian ancestry), Amerindian, or other non-white groups 3%.

My thought is how many is he going to board at the Vatican. He’s the largest property holder in the world...surely he can build lots of “Pope Cities”.

Yes, sanctuary Catholic properties.
That’s the solution. The pope can pay the people back with its vast reserves by taking care of the “immigrants”

Actually, a different Pope would be nice.

Something akin to JPII.

Hey, Frank, it is “courageous and responsible” to refute the notion that we are contributing this much to climate change. And when do you planto preach this drivel to the Chinese?

Give up your wealth, stop wasting resources, speak up for Christians, condemn evil and we will respect you, Pope.

Oh, and dress like a person. Jesus didn’t wear that crap.

With respect to encouraging Congress to roll up its sleeves for things like climate change (Genesis 8:22, Psalms 74:17) Pope Francis is just another foreigner who, like most USA citizens unfortunately, do not understand the Founding States’ division of federal and state government powers, the states never delegating to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend in the name of climate change.
"With respect to our State and federal governments, I do not think their relations correctly understood by foreigners. They generally suppose the former subordinate to the latter. But this is not the case" --Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824.

What is also unfortunate is that Pope Francis is seemingly preoccupied with the things of man, not the things of God (Matthew 16:23 versus Matthew 28:19).

50,000,000 abortions: Nothing

Same sex fake marriage: Nothing.

Political nonsense: In abundance.

Once again fundamentally rhetoric.

I have found Ministers, Priests and Pastors some of the dumbest people on the planet.
One of my good friends is a Pastor and he is still doing the same stories he did 30 years ago.
Probably still doesn’t know how to use a computer.
Now Jewish Rabi are pretty smart.
