It only works if you accept the premise that Islam is a religion. I see it as a political cult that calls itself a religion in order to gain legitimacy. The Koran is very clear that all Kafirs (negative slur used to refer to any non-Muslim) are to be wiped out. I don’t think the Constitution has words for how to deal with that, but I am pretty sure that Thomas Jefferson, who knew something about murdering Muslims, would not have wanted to see one of their “believers” in the White House.
I like Cruz, but I think he’s taking the interpretation of the Constitution into undefined territory. Not every collection of spiritual beliefs is a peaceful religion, even if it hides behind that label. And not every spiritual leader is in touch with a deity. Some just think they are.
I will get flamed on this for my simple out look on this. My views are the same as many. We already have a President that favors anti-christians! Plain and Simple! Why would we want another submissive politically correct GOPe! We Might as well vote for Socialist Sanders,Love everybody while they kill US!
Can you repeat that statement in English? I have no idea what you wrote.
It’s weird how such a benign, obviously-true statement is considered controversial here.
As a legal matter, Ted is 100 percent correct. There can be no religious test for office. That’s in the Constitution.
As a personal standard, that is an entirely different matter. Just as some people refused to vote for Romney because he is a Mormon, just as some refused to vote for JFK because he was Catholic, right or wrong, that’s their prerogative, and the same standard applies to voting for a Muslim.
IF that person is willing to live by the U.S. Constitution, as the Presidential oath requires, then I’m fine with whatever religion my President practices. If not, then I would personally have to disqualify that person, whatever religion he or she practices.
Ted, you’re starting to lose me....
Not if our current pack of perverts on the Supreme Court rule otherwise.
Cruz answered a question that wasn’t asked and didn’t need answering.
What Carson said was true and wholesome. And Cruz makes it sound like Carson believed Muslims were prohibited from running.
I’d have to see what Cruz said in context. I think he was making more of a legal/constitutional argument.
All that matters is that Carson said he wouldn’t vote for a Muslim because he believes it to be wrong.
It’s only Cruz, in his stupidity, who came in to say that, ‘No, Ben, the Constitution says it is perfectly fine for Muslims to run for president.’
Cruz answered a question not asked, with an irrelevant answer.
He is right that under the constitution, a muslim can run for office.
Electing him, though, is suicide.
He is also right that muslim refugees can be safely re-settled in muslim countries. I would add, “only”. They can only be re-settled safely in muslim countries. They are an existential threat to any non-muslim country.
He is also right that christian refugees must not be re-settled in any muslim country. They will never be safe there, ever.
I always wear my asbestos suit before posting comments. Just a hint lol.
I googled it and Zhudi Jasser was born in Ohio, so it appears he's eligible. He claims to be a practicing Muslim but he does vocally oppose Sharia law and you're probably right that most "mainstream" Muslim groups would consider him to be an apostate, or at least the Muslim equivalent of an Uncle Tom.
Good example, though. If you had a gun to my head and the choice was Jeb Bush or Zhudi Jasser, I'd probably go with Jasser.
Why vote for someone whose religion teaches him to kill anyone who does not agree with his philosophy? FI.
individuals can make a religious test if they want.
Cruz need to lecture Lefties who want the govt to ban Christians from govt work...see Kim Davis
But there will be millions of muslims that will!
Bunch of idiots.
Islam is nor compatible with Western culture. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. Read their satanic verses, dammit.
Ted, I would love to vote for you if the GOP ever LETS you run...but please, on this subject...why are Christian teachers forbidden to have a Bible on their desks, or even talk about their personal faith? If the Fed can make that happen...then there should be no problem with saying NO to a Muslim President. Or the other way around.
If we were not importing them by the hundreds of thousands we would not have to worry about any of them being elected would we .
STOP THE INSANITY AND START SENDING THEM BACK
