Tragic News About Country Legend Glen Campbell – PLEASE PRAY!

Country legend Glen Campbell has been struggling with severe memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease. A horrible disease in which there is yet not a cure.

Now, we learned from his wife Kim that the legend is in the sixth of the seven stages of Alzheimer’s, which means he has lost all ability to communicate.

This is tragic! He is responsive to family, but the disease can make him extremely combative at times:

Kim, Campbell’s wife of 33 years, says the Country Music Hall of Famer has entered the sixth of the disease’s seven stages so his communication has diminished considerably and he has, as many Alzheimer’s patients do, become prone to physical outbursts. One resulted in a black eye for Kim.

“He can become extremely combative if you try to redirect him to something that he doesn’t want to do,” she explained to the newspaper. “I have a black eye right now. I know that’s not him, that’s not who he is; it’s just the Alzheimer’s.”

I thought these lyrics had a new special meaning given his current state.

They certainly do.

I associate that song with George Putnam, who used it as his theme on "Talkback," his radio show on KIEV, at 870 kilocycles on the AM band. "Talkback," which began in 1976, was one of the first conservative radio talk shows in Southern California.

The Wichita Lineman really does that for me. The music connotes a vast open, lonely area of country with wheat fields and a road, but no farmhouses, anywhere to be seen.

There are few songs that can enwrap me in the song's environment as that one. It even leaves me feeling empty, with a pit in my stomach.

Oh, Wow, I didn't know he sang that one, too cool!

Of course, I also didn't know that he toured with the Beach Boys for years either.

The man was multi-talented.

I read just the headline somewhere that he was returned home. I knew immediately that he will not last long. I enjoy his songs. His songs bring back fond memories of our family vacation trip to Mexico. We would drive thru Arizona and Texas to get to the border. Going thru the desert on a sunset was so beautiful to witness and I recall hearing Glen’s songs on the radio as we drove thru a dry desert filled with cactus. His songs was just pure AMERICAN. There will never be another one like him.

Going to miss you Glenn, however I know you will be going home to the Lord.

“If anyone doubts this, or wishes to challenge it, they need to prove this to be wrong,” he continued, adding that no Islamic texts exist which reject the “traditional barbaric principles of Islamic law.”

It brings tears to my eyes to read your story. My prayers for you.

The rapid progression of your father’s illness however do not sound so much like Alzheimer’s as they do strokes.

Did they confirm his condition as Alzheimer’s or did they do an autopsy?

Actually written by Fred Neil. Odd, cause it’s the one song that everyone recognizes as Nilsson, but he didn’t write it.

Very sad.

We’ve known about his condition for a while. When he was in an early stage, he did a farewell tour. Interestingly, he could remember every note and every lyric of every song, but couldn’t remember how to get on and off stage. Apparently, music uses a separate part of the brain.

The research on Alzheimers is getting close to effective treatment in early stages. Nursing homes now have whole floors for Alzheimers only patients.

Early on in his career Glen Campbell played guitar in a band called The Champs. They are the ones that did the song Tequila. Tequila is the song made famous by Pee Wee Herman in the film Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, when he gets up on the bar and dances to it in high-platform shoes. Ironically, I just tonight posted some screen shots from that film.

Thank you for your prayers. I don’t believe there was any autopsy. His nurse told us Dad was taking meds for dementia, which did not surprise me. They didn’t actually use the term Alzheimers. My siblings who live in that city decided on cremation.

All four of us are still learning about the details one needs to take charge of when a loved one passes on. Insurance monies, estate taxes, shutting off and canceling all heating and water bills, so no street people move into that now empty house and push us deeper into debt. My parents never wanted to talk much about their health issues, especially my father. Even as 50 to 65 y/o ‘children’ we did not feel comfortable asking him for the details about his physical health or his financial stability. He told us what he wished us to know. We surmised the rest.

He was a great studio musician also. He was part of what they called The Wreaking Crew. Was on a lot of the Beach Boys songs.
