Why would the Democrats want to save Boehner? Better to let the Republicans rip each other apart for a while. Congress can go on without a speaker.
Because maybe a real conservative would get the position and start fighting back.
From what I recall reading here; the “Speaker” does not have to be an elected Congress-critter. They could elect Newt if the juevo’s were there.
