Rick Santorum accuses Ted Cruz of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants
washington times ^ | 9/25/2015 | Seth McLaughlin

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum vowed Friday to pursue immigration policies that protect American workers, while warning voters that some of his GOP rivals have embraced a much softer approach to the issue. Mr. Santorum, the runner-up in the 2012 Republican nomination battle, urged the crowd that converged on a hotel in Washington, D.C., for the annual Values Voter Summit to recognize that a couple of the speakers before him — Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz — have previously supported “amnesty” for illegal immigrants. “You have a lot of people that come up here and talk about how tough they are, but they actually support amnesty. The speaker just before me running for president, he will tell you how tough he is,” Mr. Santorum said, alluding to Mr. Cruz. “He offered an amendment to allow people to stay in this country indefinitely. To me, that is amnesty.” Mr. Santorum has struggled to gain a foothold in national polling and is running near the back of the pack. With that as a backdrop, the 57-year-old has staked a lot in the immigration debate. He also has touted the conservative record he compiled in Congress, including authoring legislation aimed at changing the leadership of the Iranian government. Mr. Santorum served in the House from 1991 to 1995 and in the Senate from 1995 to 2007 when he lost his re-election bid to Democrat Bob Casey Jr. by a 59 percent to 41 percent margin.

I was joking about the descriptive language you used on Santorum. Yesterday, I saw a lot of criticism on this site by sensitive people who were upset the way Trump attacks. They prefer hugs, cuddles, and smiles.

By definition

If you have a HB1 visa you are not here illegally, so how is supporting increasing hb1 visas supporting amnesty or letting people stay here indefinitely?

This arrogant, snotty, has-been, former US Senator lives for the attention he can draw every 4 years.

Cruz won't deport.

Asked by @glennbeck about my claim last night that Ted Cruz is for amnesty. See quote paragraph 9.

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

RE: Cruz hands out Teddy bears at border with Glenn Beck

That does not mean that he wants to accept these children into the United States.

There is a difference between being INDIVIDUALLY compassionate and LEGALIZING illegals.

I have no problems feeding the starving children who just came from thousands of miles away.

But after they have been adequately fed and clothed ( and not using tax payer money, which Ted Cruz did no advocate ), I’d send them back home where they came from.

RE: Cruz’s wife served on the CFR task force that wrote “Building a North American Community,”

What my wife does and what her opinions are are HERS, NOT MINE. I’m sure ted Cruz also knows the difference.

Rick Santorum is this cycle’s Tim Pawlenty, it appears.

Well, that’s how I see it.

But then visa overstays - including people who come here on H1B visas, is an integral part of illegal immigration. If you come here on a visa with a specific expiration date and decide you’re just gonna hang around anyway, you’re an illegal alien. N’cest pas?

While I’m not pro pornography, I didn’t like hearing Santorum say in the last election, that he would ban it from the internet. If he’d use the office of president to ban things from the internet, he was not a small government, limited powers kind of guy. Additionally, two of my sons have met him and said he’s a politician through and through and not the guy you see on tv. They were very disappointed.

Cruz is largely disfavored by Hispanics, why would he want more of them to vote?

Oh no, I believe you. Friday is anti Cruz troll day, don't you know that? Let me ask you a question, who has fought harder within the bounds of the 'sausage factory' we call the legislative branch in DC against the GOPe establishment and the Uniparty dictator Obama than Ted Cruz. Is it Rick Santorum? or is it whoever your supporting?

RE: But then visa overstays - including people who come here on H1B visas,

I work with H1B people all the time, having been in the tech industry for over two decades. I have yet to see one overstayer.

Most of them ( the good ones ) have their visas renewed. A lot apply LEGALLY for green cards, and then get stuck there for years waiting for their application to be approved.

I already have several H1B colleagues who I hired waiting for 5 years for their green card applications to be approved. Just going through the Department of Labor is a pain in the butt.

Rick Santorum accuses Ted Cruz of supporting ‘amnesty’ for illegal immigrants
Cruz:
In 2013, Sen. Cruz proposed amendments to the “Gang of 8” bill that would strengthen border security, expand green card opportunities, increase high-skilled “H1B” visas, prevent illegal aliens from receiving welfare benefits, and enforce the rule of law.
Santorum is right. The “Gang of 8” bill was Rubios bill. Some Cruz supporters would like to pretend, or try to make you believe he was going to amend a bill that he had no intention of voting for.

The gang of 8 bill called for 30 million new green cards. Green cards come with benefits, so naturally issuing green cards to illegals makes it legal for them to collect benefits.

30 million green cards, AKA back door amnesty.
