Ya know, I bet something in tobacco kills them too. Smokers have much lower incidence of alzheimers from what I remember.
It does, but it also inhibits healing and growth, and plays hell with the gums. Our primary doctor is one of the top implantologists in the world, having developed some of the primary implant systems and demonstrated that implants can actually have bone/implant integration to the point where a jaw can be re-generated and the new bone grows around and through the implant at the molecular level. He will NOT do any implants on smokers because of healing issues. . . Smokers can take between two to four times longer to heal which adds to chances of complications and failure of the implant.
After care is complicated by smokers and our implants include patient's lifetime aftercare of the implant.
