Because he didn’t want to be killed by the father. Nice Guy. I’m sure the girl told the cops or store staff that she’d be in BIG trouble. Damn. Bad story from all sides.

Maybe she thought things were headed that way soon, and got them in anticipation that it would be soon. It probably wasn’t “ok, we are going to get busy Friday afternoon, ill buy the condoms and you pick the music”.
If the boyfriend got them, how would the father know? They only knew because of the public nature of criminal arrests.
