It's unreasonable to place too much importance on these numbers at this time.

The media didn't even count the wounded, cripes, that was prolly over 5,000.
The local media was openly 'rooting' for 2,000 near the year end when the murder count was in the high 1,900s and the local hoods did their part by killing at a record rate for the Christmas Holidays, thereby being victorious and reaching the common goal...2,000...2,000...2,000...YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.
