Shocking: New U.S. Army Patch Closely Resembles ISIS Logo

A new combat patch worn by U.S. soldiers fighting against ISIS in Iraq is drawing flak from service members because it closely resembles logos of the very same jihadists they’re fighting.

Soldiers serving in Operation Inherent Resolve have worn the patch since April of this year. There is even a medal version that soldiers can wear on their Army Service Uniform, Military.com reports.

On its Facebook-page, Army Times explains that the patch is “meant to symbolize the twin goals of the U.S.-led coalition: to defeat the militant group and to restore stability in the region, according to Army documents.” However, many soldiers with experience fighting radical Islamists say the patch closely resembles the patches and logos of their enemies. As Army veteran Michael Daunais explains:

Will these be issued to Iraqi troops so they can desert again and leave these patches for ISIS?

David Clay, a former Army chief warrant officer, adds:

You can keep that ISIS patch featuring swords that chop off our heads.

Here are some other reactions that show that soldiers (and supporters of the military) are shocked beyond belief by this rather unAmerican patch:

Swords may still be part of some military dress uniforms. The lack of green indicates the lack of ROP. I like the cannons. The Eagle standing on the bundle of sticks is also an American symbol. ROP blades are usually curved. I am also a fan of the Crusader garb also.

A picture of Obama bending over on a rainbow background would have been more appropriate.

You forgot the patch for Patton's Third Army:

Damn, I just cannot wait until we have a President (and thus a military leadership) that actually loves this country and is proud of it, warts and all.

I called the institute of Heraldry yesterday. They stated that the patch was designed by a member of the US training task force and request its approval, which TIOH did. It was NOT designed by TIOH, but they did ‘make it official.’

You mean like this one?

Cause this Mamaluke is the standard dress sword for USMC officers and has been since 1826.

Moslems have been using scimitars to bring peace and democracy for centuries! Look at the result!

The name “Mameluke” is not coincidental.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mameluke_sword

And at any rate, what is on that patch is not your typical western sabre. Check out the Moorish sword here, and see if it doesn’t bear a striking resemblace to the patch:

http://www.swordhistory.info/?p=10

If they wanted a USMC Mameluke, they would have drawn one.

Ah, I see.

The Islamic logo has swords that are closer in style to our sabres. If they had gone with those (as in some of the other logos folks posted) and made it red white and blue I doubt anyone would have noticed.

So why this weird “Moorish” sword?
