The Russians know very well how to deal with locals-especially any belligerent ones...

Sometime during the 80’s some middle eastern terrorists kidnapped some Russians and demanded one of their people to be released. The Russians sent them who they wanted. Well a part of him anyway, (his head in a bx).

“As the Germans found out, using air power and artillery to root out defenders sometimes just makes defense easier. However, I suspect that ISIS won’t put up as strong a defense as the Russians at Stalingrad did.”

This is true - tens of thousands of places to hide and gain the advantage in a city, even better if it’s rubble. We found that out at Monte Cassino, Italy.

Indeed they did. After Jimmy Carter armed the muslum extremists via Operation Cyclone.

Easier for a large mechanized war machine to dominate in the relatively open desert areas of Syria than in the mountains of Afghanistan ... also presumably the US won’t be supplying arms to ISIS, beyond what they’ve already seized from our abandoned Iraqi bases and “moderate” allies ....

Per Commander Salamander, previously on the ground there, they've also had an opportunity to testfire their 3M-14T “Kalibr” missiles in Syria.

Guess what? They found out that they work, probably better than a US-built Tomahawk.
