Yeah...the meat market near me accepts EBT cards and food stamps. I’m sure they’re not switching to pork.

Food was cheap when Bush left office. Ground beef was $1.99 lb. That’s a fact.
Unless it is in the clearance bin hitting its expiration date, beef has pretty much priced itself out of my basket.
This has been going on for decades.
I can remember my parents and their siblings substituting pork for beef when the beef prices got too and vice versa.
Walmart and Safeway in our areas have reduced the beef shelf areas in their stores and expanded their pork products shelf areas.
We will find out this week how Costco has respounded.
We have rarely bought beef in our house in the last 4 or 5 years. Mostly been pork and chicken. We also try to buy a half or whole pig from the butcher (usually equating to $2/lb) and that keeps us stocked up for months.
Commodity prices for cattle have come down 30% since the spring.
So welcome back, baby, to the pork side of town...
IF you’re prone to GOUT, pork is not your friend.

I agree beef prices are painful, but sometimes you can find a bargain. I picked up two packages of filets for $8 a pound this weekend. They were close to expiration and not the tenderest I’ve ever had, but considering they’re usually $13+ a pound, I’m ok with that.
And to keep this in perspective, the same store was selling lobster tails for $30 a pound, and king crab for $22. Heck, I think their cod was over $10 a pound.
Actually I am stunned to see how cheaply you can buy a nice pork roast around here.
