Russia is now on Turkeys southern flank.(i.e. Syria) Russia's goal is control of the entire Southern Mediterranean coast from Turkey to the Atlantic. By controlling the northern and southern European flanks Russia Russia will eventually achieve a "Grand Cannae" over NATO forces.
