When Cruz Makes His Move, Watch Out
National Review ^ | 10/7/2015 | Eliana Johnson

Posted on 10/07/2015 4:59:22 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

The Texas senator may look like an also-ran, but he’s a legit contender.

Where’s Ted Cruz? The outspoken Texas senator has been unusually quiet in recent weeks. But in GOP circles, there’s soft but growing chatter that he is likely to be one of the last men standing in one of the most chaotic and unpredictable presidential races in recent memory.

You wouldn’t know it from his poll numbers. Cruz is running at about 6 percent nationally and in key states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. That’s well behind outsiders Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson, and those numbers accord with the attitude that many influential Republicans have taken toward him since his arrival in Washington three years ago: There’s no way he can win the nomination. He’s too conservative and doctrinaire, and his abrasiveness doesn’t help the cause.

Given his poll numbers and his solid but unremarkable debate performances, the press has mostly ignored him. The result is that the Texas senator may be the most undercovered serious candidate in the race – and the most underestimated. But he shouldn’t be dismissed. This is the man, after all, who, according to one of his allies, began meeting with Iowa activists to plot his path to victory in the state in August of 2013, just nine months after he was elected to the Senate. Is it possible that he’ll sneak up on the Republican establishment again, just as he did in his 2012 Senate race?

Within Republican circles, attitudes about his viability have begun to change.

This race is about endurance, it is a marathon.

A better president and if not that then a Supreme.

I don’t want to unfairly equate him to that “I’m for sale to the highest bidder” POS Colin Powell, but I just can’t get that scenario out of my mind. Conservatives were tripping over ourselves to tout what appeared to be a conservative black man, he even had the military record which in that era was almost proof positive of conservative leanings, and then he turns around and supports and votes for an out-and-out leftist who wants to “fundamentally transform” America, and after reaching the position in the military which he reached, he had the gall to play the race card. I’m very wary of getting burned again.

That’s amazing to me. Amazing. And the comments are very favorable.

Exactly! Me too. This was 'Mr. Smith Goes To Washington'. This was an incredible 'made for the movies' live hour (without notes!) on the floor of the U.S. Senate ... and all we got was crickets. *sigh*

My FR post from 9/30/2015 ...

Just in case you haven't listened to the incredibly powerful hour long speech by Ted Cruz on the floor of the U.S. Senate, please devote an hour to this. I knew about the speech, I had read several threads about it, but I had not watched it.

Tonight, I had the opportunity to watch it from start to finish. A better hour you will not spend. I started sending this link to a broader group and ask that you do the same, although you probably already have.

Without question, this should be the next President of the United States of America.

Sen. Cruz: The Real Story of What Is Happening in Washington

And the United States Senate listened to this truth for an hour and then completely shunned Senator Cruz and threw him off the floor the very second his time was up.

If Trump is the candidate, I’ll gladly vote for him, but in my ideal world, it would be Cruz for the win, win it all.

That’s how I see it. They know Cruz is the anti-gaffe machine, so the best they can do is to ignore him.

After Florida’s winner-take-all primary on March 15, things will pretty well be set. If not, brokered convention.

I would love to see Ted Cruz debate Hillary.

His “abrasiveness” ???????????

Which one of his interviews was “very unpleasant or irritating?”

Ignoring Cruz is exactly what they have done.

There is plenty of time to cover him and then we shall see him as the total package that he is.

Yes, I know about TPP/TPA and all the perceived faults, and I don’t care.

Cruz was just on Fox News with Bill Hemmer, and, wow, just fantastic yet again! He simply destroyed the “Obama/Clinton foreign policy” failures we see all over the world.

I boycotted Fox, but Hemmer is one guy who I really like.

I’m sorry I missed that.

Will it be shown again, I wonder.

Thanks, SOTC.

Alan Dershowitz said that Cruz was among the absolute brightest of the 10,000 students he taught during his 50 years at Harvard...”off the charts brilliant.”

Every candidate in the race, Repub and Dem, is intellectually outgunned by Cruz.

Nah. . . I see Cruz’s long-term role as Mr. Justice Cruz. Perhaps even Chief Justice Cruz. .

” He’d make a great “unbiased” attorney general.”

And an even better Supreme Court Justice.

Best of all, the U.S. President, to appoint Constitutionalist AG, Federal judges, Supreme Court Justices, etc.

the press has mostly ignored him Cowards.

I think that one of the problems for Cruz is that we have had such a long series of mediocre if not downright awful (think Cartah and Odungo) people occupying the Oval Office that voters wouldn't know a great candidate if he ran them over with an earthmover. The populace has been conditioned by the traitorous media to accept the inferior and like it. They are not used to quality leadership. They are not used to someone who bucks the trend and dares to be great, taking on all comers. They have been groomed and conditioned by the vermin media to go for looks, etc.
