Republican Rep. Charlie Dent Calls For "Bipartisan Coalition" To Select New Speaker
Real Clear Politics ^ | October, 8, 2015 | Staff

REP. CHARLIE DENT: The next Speaker should not appease those who make unreasonable demands. There are a number of members of our conference. You cannot get the yes on anything. For them the end will be the good.

In my view it's come time to marginalize those members who doesn't want to be part of the governing majority.

I've said for some time that in order to pass anything out of the House we need to assemble a bipartisan coalition whether it's on the continuing resolution, the debt ceiling, we will have to assemble a bipartisan coalition. That's the reality of this place and I don't think that any of our leaders should make accommodations to those who are going to make unreasonable demands...

I don't know what will happen. Anything is possible now. It's pretty clear to me that a number of us are not going to simply appease or exceed to those who will make unreasonable demands. And so I suspect in order to govern around here we need a bipartisan coalition on all major bills.

If we can't get 218 Republican votes for a Speaker, then we'll have to try other options. I don't know what those options are, but I certainly don't want to put somebody in the Speaker's job who is going to appease those who are making unreasonable demands.

Go chgog you way to another pint somewhere, pal, and enjoy the freefall of libs, anyway you can take it.

I understand the last part of your sentence and I agree with it.

I see now. You are pissed off your posting only has 21 hits(including yours) compared to the 35 I already got.

Look - you can have mine if you want them. My point is the message is the most important and the way I see it, there are a lot more people who got the message.

Relax and have that drink. We are winning.

Yes, we are winning because of Trump/Cruz/Carson (in no particular order) we are winning.

But that has nothing to do with you being lazy. And you don't have the character to admit it. That's all.

Never in a million years would the Democrats promote “Bipartisan Coalition” to elect the Speaker of the House. I never heard of this idiot Rep. Charlie Dent before

“Charlie Dent: Republicans ‘fragged’ Kevin McCarthy”

I am calling this the Renee Elmers effect. She has been very nasty to Tea Party members after using the Tea Party to get elected.

Dent represents a Democrat-leaning district, so I tolerate him. But don’t let this guy into the leadership.

I’m pretty sure McCarthy quit because of the report he is having an affair.

First of all his district voted for Romney.

Second of all he doesn’t seem to be declaring his own candidacy here but calling for dems to vote for McCarthy (though he doesn’t mention his name). Wanting the job for himself would be consistent with this kind of idea though.

Regardless, he’s a planned parenthood supporter in a Romney district so he should be primaired with extreme prejudice. Why he got off scot free in 2014 while other MUCH more conservative members were FERVENTLY targeted is beyond me.

His suggestion here is treasonous and makes me want to put a dent in his face. Pelosi would demand concessions.

Excuse me I’ve been on Mars so I didn’t know McC dropped out.

BTW, NASA is full of it, there’s no water there!

PA-15 is not a conservative district. I used to live there before moving to a solidly red (or blue as you like to term it) area in western VA. Toomey was the congressman before Dent and before Dent, there was McHale, a moderate Rat, but a Rat nonetheless.

It’s mostly upper middle class suburbs (Allentown) and like similar suburbs in Philly, it is “kinda” economically conservative, but decidedly socially liberal.

Toomey and Dent are probably about the best you can do there, but they’re a check in the GOP column.

I moved before the 2012 election, so didn’t know Romney took it. That kind of surprises me.

Susan Collins voted to get rid of PP funding and Maine is a lot more liberal than PA-15. And the rat McHale was pro-life wasn’t he?

It may not be a district where M. Bachmann would be elected but I think it can do better than one the premier voices for abortion in the Republican party.

BTW here’s my link for POTUS results by CD

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/19/1163009/-Daily-Kos-Elections-presidential-results-by-congressional-district-for-the-2012-2008-elections

Yes it’s KOS but they do a good job crunching numbers.

For PA-15

2012

50.8% Romney 47.9% Obama

2008

52.1% Obama 46.6% McCain

It’s uh “purple” ;p

Dent is an imbecile, and the suggestion of a Democrat supported Speaker proves he is unfit to serve. See how long a Democrat would last had he suggested a GOP Speaker under a Dem majority. Maybe we could recruit Paul McHale to switch parties and challenge him in the primary. He was a better member than Dent ever was.

PA-15 has the disadvantage of being within commuting distance to both north Joisey and NYC. Transplants can sell their 2 BR cottage on a postage stamp lot in those areas and with the proceeds, buy a McMansion in PA-15.

So what if the breadwinners have to spend two hours a day in a car or on a bus to work, their families live in a cushy house in an upscale neighborhood with great schools. At least, that’s the rationale.

Don Ritter, a scientist by trade and a reliable conservative voice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_L._Ritter) was the rep there from 79-93. Impressive guy, if very bland.

It was in the 80’s that the district started to trend purple as the transplants starting infiltrating.
