Somethings missing in the thread. Newt wasn't perfect but he was the best GOP SOH in many years. Now who was that man standing behind the magic curtain arranging for Newt to be booted out? Was it Conservatives? No. Then who was it? It was John Boehner and Rep Bill Paxon-R NY who was behind unseating Newt. Remember the search for an honest man to follow? Livingston, Hassert, Hyde, and no removal from office for Clinton under them. Right?

Far less damage would have likely been inflicted long term had Newt stayed and went public about his private life which was obviously being held over his head. You have to remember it was his successors who were passing bill after bill empowering POTUS more and more especially in the GWB term. Empowerment which has become abuses and tyranny under Obama. Newt had his problems but I don't think he would have taken us there. Boehner vs Newt? I'll take Newt anyday. At least he is a man who can be reasoned with.
