Cruz: Trump won't be GOP nominee
Politico ^ | 10/09/2015 | Nick Gass

Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee for president, Ted Cruz said Thursday, claiming that a majority of the Manhattan real-estate mogul's supporters would end up voting for him instead.

Cruz was asked whether he believed he could beat Trump based on his principles, in an interview with WABC's Rita Cosby that will air on Sunday. "I think that's right. I think in time I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lion’s share of his supporters end up with us," the freshman senator predicted. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?

He continued: "Who's taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty? Or actually, just going back to last week. You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, 'we need to defund Planned Parenthood.' But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up."

Cruz, who has declined to criticize Trump, unlike some of his GOP presidential rivals, reiterated that he is "glad" he is in the race and that his candidacy has reflected favorably on his own positions.

"In the real world it means Cruz launched a first strike against Trump. Cruz was my first choice. I no longer trust him. Cruz is just another failing politician and I no longer want Trump to include him in leadership should we be fortunate enough to get Trump as the nominee and POTUS. Cruz is following Jindal, down, down, down."

Just look at your post. It's filled with naked hero worship and sputtering outrage that Cruz dared to criticize Trump. Just who do you think that Manhattanite sleazebag IS?

I don't believe for a second that Cruz was your first choice, but if he was, he's better off without your support.

Best point anyone has made. I’ll buy that. If his loss of control of his empire doesn’t sway him to pack it in....he will go on to win.

“In the real world it means Cruz launched a first strike against Trump.”

I listened to the video and don’t agree he was launching an attack against Trump. Perhaps you would feel differently if you listened to the interview. He is positive about Trump’s entry into the process.

“it’s really a cheap ploy to take something intentionally out of context to make your point.”

Have no idea what you mean. However, consider starting a sentence with a capital letter, as in “It’s” really... :o)

Come to think of it, you are really limited in your inderstanding of true consrrvative. It is defininently not big labor protectionist. It is pro American worker. It recognizes the danger of both overpowerful unions AND OVERPOWERFUL CAPITAL HOLDERS. It is now the work of current Republicans who are not conservative who protect capital at the expense of the American worker.

“...you way over estimate how much time and care I take in posting to you.”

Now, C. Edmund, I refuse to bicker with you as your posts sometimes make sense. You seem to, most of the time, however, have a burr under your extremity and post personal attacks on people, trying to point out your supposed superiority (which is why I pointed out your capital mistake :o)). Your putdown just won’t work with me. I suspect my education level is above yours, so let’s stick with facts and help people who need correct information.

Checked your grammar lately? I’m going to like you no matter how much false nastiness you post to me. :o) If I recall correctly, I think Catherine also likes some of your posts.

I like both of y’all, and you are both smarter than me.

I remember jumping CEW about something way back when, and instigating an argument...and now I can’t even remember what it was about, LOL.

‘Manhattanite sleazebag’

Somehow others manage to criticize Trump without descending to this DU-level of name calling. You don’t help Cruz—or even hurt Trump, for that matter—by immitating the liberal hate tactic of mud slinging.

That is a superb explanation of how it is done by the grass roots.

So the senator will leap frog from 8.3% to over 22.3% for the real-estate mogul in Iowa! OK!! This will be worth watching.

  1. Just look at your post.
  2. It seems you are guilty of that which you accuse another.
  3. You ?

I don't believe for a second that Cruz was your first choice, but if he was, he's better off without your support.

You have demonstrated to me that you lack wisdom, understanding, and knowledge.

I listened and you are correct. He saw Rita's question and said something good about Trump. However, she followed up and he said something foolish and now that will be the headline to be used against him. He had a friendly interviewer (Rita Cosby) and he made a mistake. He said:
  1. Kevin McCarthy "is a good man."
  2. "I don't know" if it was a good idea for Kevin McCarthy to drop out of the running for Speaker of the House.
  3. When asked if he thought there was someone better, he declined to comment or offer a suggestion.
  4. He attacks "Republican leadership" more than he does Obama or the Democrats, using lots of trite political euphemisms; typical politician.
  5. He again was asked to proffer any alternative to Boehner or McCarthy and he declined again to offer anyone; typical politician.
  6. Mandating ObamaCare for all politicians; spot on.
  7. Exaggerated his presidential campaign; it is not getting "enormous enthusiasm." Look at his standing in the polls. He said conservatives are "coalescing around our campaign" which is patently false. 6% represents the conservative portion of Republicans. He is simply not credible.
  8. He started well talking about Trump. "I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee." That was an unforced error on his part. He should have said "I will leave it to the voters to decide. I think I am the best candidate."
  9. "Conservatives are unifying around our campaign."
False, that is wishful thinking, false advertising, and definitely not happening (yet). I'm so tired of politicians who say things that are patently false.

“So the senator will leap frog from 8.3% to over 22.3% for the real-estate mogul in Iowa!”

You say the Cruz percentage right now in Iowa is 8.3%. If that is accurate, it is the result of a telephone call to a limited number of voters. Also, in these phone calls, Trump has 22.3% if your numbers are accurate there. This exact type of poll had Cruz losing to the Lt. Gov., for the US senate seat, even the day before the election. The next day, Cruz won by a considerable margin.

So, a win depends on the amount of effort exerted by the candidate to reach the individual voter at the right times before the actual voting day. Of course, if you have a lousy candidate, nothing will work. The candidate has to be a viable candidate plus put in the organization to cover all the bases.

Best luck to your candidate, senator Cruz. He is impressive in many ways. I have very few issues with him. One being H1-B visa’s, and the other when he was pushing for Pacific Trade. I don’t care if McConnell was lying, Ted Cruz should know that these trade deals with low labor cost countries have only one purpose...to benefit the mega-rich-donor class. And they always hurt middle class jobs.

You are a class act based on your posts. Would be great if all Cruz supporters were as civil.
