In response to the latest mass shooting during his presidency, President Obama is seriously considering circumventing Congress with his executive authority and imposing new background-check requirements for buyers who purchase weapons from high-volume gun dealers.

Under the proposed rule change, dealers who exceed a certain number of sales each year would be required to obtain a license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and perform background checks on potential buyers.

He is going to seize the opportunity under gutless Weeper Boner.

Sure hope the NRA takes him to court that afternoon.

I’ve seen the ‘his executive authority’ phrase tossed around so constantly the journos apparently think it’s a real, live thing as opposed to a constitutional non-entity.

It’s obviously too much to ask them if they think it’s a good thing that the enforcement branch of the government picks and chooses laws to enforce and makes up that which doesn’t exist to suit its liking.

And he is the one wanting to make it illegal for companies to ask interviewees if they’ve ever been convicted of a felony before.

“Under what authority would he have to make such a “law”?”

Well, as much as he wants to make up lies about “internet loopholes”, “gunshow loopholes” 40% of sales don’t get background checks, etc. he’s not making up a law, there is a law. Anyone involved in the business of selling guns has to get an FFL and do background checks. The BATFE are his boys, so I guess he set some limit of 50 gun sales a year before they come looking for you. Does anyone know what the limit is now? Probably the BATFE doesn’t have a firm number. That way they can go after whoever they want.
