Renegade Republicans join with Democrats to force vote on Export-Import Bank

If Republicans aren’t already divided enough, several dozen party members have signed a petition that will force the House to vote on whether to revive a controversial government-run bank that helps big American companies sell goods overseas.

Some 41 Republicans signed a so-called discharge petition in an effort to fully reopen the Export-Import Bank. They joined ranks with nearly all Democrats to meet the 218-vote threshold required to allow a bill to reach the House floor.

KEYWORDS: dischargepetition; eximbank; exportimport
The House vote on this was done 10/9/2015, just before Boehner recessed the house so he could fine another clone to replace him as Speaker

Is your House Republican one of the 41 who voted for crony capitalism?

Well, well, well...it appears that the “small government conservative” poseur Renee Ellmers was one of the crony capitalist supporters. It’s a small thing she can do to support her K Street campaign contributors & her Chamber of Commerce masters.

It must be frustrating for Renee to not be able to get carnal release because of the glare of publicity currently enveloping her.

Jared Polis Colorado 02

Yep, that one is “mine”. He is a democrat rubber stamp so there is no surprise there.

Diana DeGette Colorado 01
Ed Perlmutter Colorado 07

Both are Dems and arguably worse than Polis so again no surprise.

The good news is that I did not see any Republican from Colorado on that list.

Is there ever such a thing as a “Renegade” or “Maverick” Democrat?

I am as conservative as most freepers. I am as much for free trade as most freepers.

But the idea that we should close the ex/im bank while other countries subsidize their industry and then scream “bring back our jobs”, is just economic suicide.

I agree with free trade when it is two way not one way.

We should impose a tariff equivalent to the subsidy received by these foreign businesses in their respective countries.

So cries of despair over chaos and crisis in the House of Representatives apply only when conservatives seek to be heard.

Yes! Poverty is OK when it harms EVERYONE. Hooray Smoot/Hawley!

Evidently, you think managed trade is preferable to free trade. Hooray for dirigism?

That was sarcasm. I am a free trade absolutist. Tariffs are taxes. If some country wants to penalize their citizens with tariffs and we retaliate, who loses? The American consumer.

A subsidy via the Ex Im bank is equivalent to a tax on the businesses who do not receive the subsidy.
