Columbus? Do these guys have any imagination? Can they imagine where they would be without Columbus? They’d be hiding from invading Syrians

Columbus started this country.

“Bernie is the son of Dora/Dorothy (Glassberg) and Eli Sanders. His father was a Polish Jewish immigrant. His mother was born in New York, to Russian Jewish parents.”

He could go back to 1941 to be born in Poland if he hates tgis country so much

I would get rid of Black Friday so fast it would curl your hair. It would eliminate any thoughts of stores being open on thanksgiving

I daresay the “abortion” toll rate is probably more than what got sacrificed by the Aztecs (even they had to realize too much of that and you get a revolt on your hands).

What failed? Well God could not have failed. That is impossible by definition. What failed was people, and people who slowly became so proud that they wouldn’t even allow room in their lives for God to help them. It is not at all hard to do a witness exceedingly badly, all one has to do is let it become a religion about how good one is, rather than how much God helps in spite of one’s badness. Now it is no longer real, no longer genuine. People are going to hoot at it saying that if they want pride, they can do that just fine without pulling God into the picture.

Thanksgiving would be next to go. Then the 4th of July.

“When it comes to celebrating Columbus or Columbus Day we should just say no,” she writes. She proposes that Columbus Day be replaced by “Immigrants’ Day.”

I don't care what they call it so long as I continue to get the day off.

If the US is so suck, why is Ms. Williamson here?

More importantly, when is she leaving?

Columbus started this country.

Columbus never even set foot on the land that would later become the United States. That's the one thing that has always puzzled me about celebrating Columbus Day.

Good. It’s totally unnecessary. Banks and government offices are closed and the employees get a free day off with pay. Not many civilians get that for a day off....................

Had anything except European Christians arrived at what we know as American shores bent on dwelling in the land, the results would have been much more chaotic.

Many of the native woes after immigration began stemmed from tribes and immigrants taking sides as was convenient. One could call that taking torches to what already was wildfire, but even in conquest the western idea was not to annihilate or even enslave (something that is difficult to manage when one is living a nomadic lifestyle oneself) but to assimilate, or failing that to coexist in some kind of detente.

Liberal logic:

1. Columbus never should have sailed.
2. Europeans should never have come to the Americas.
3. The United States never should have been founded.
4. The United States was born in sin has no right to exist.
5. The United States should therefore be destroyed or dismantled.

And isn't that what they are trying to do?

Columbus was in Puerto Rico, which is the United States.

He landed in the West Indies which counts as “North America.” The United States was a later phenomenon, as was Mexico and Canada.

According to records of the time, Columbus was accused of maltreating a lot of harmless natives and decimating the population. He was taken back to Spain in shackles. It’s hard for me to understand what would have moved Columbus to want to do that, even if they viewed him as a god. That isn’t what “good Catholics” were expected to do, though “good Catholics” are not immune from succumbing to vice. But the only witnesses we have records of today were others on his voyage and I sometimes wonder if jealousy or other issues played a part in distorting the account and they basically had a mutiny on the land part of the excursion. If so, Columbus handled it with utter class and set out again, this time with a different crew.

Kind of a bitterness game. The premise is that it was an impure event, therefore it should be subjected mercilessly to punishment by gods of purity (which, however, somehow the liberals still manage to evade themselves).

We can see plain old sin quite clearly here. And it is a human game, not just a “liberal” game.

By all means repeal the Columbus Day holiday, just try and eliminate a day off for government workers.

All liberals (especially white ones) who denigrate Columbus and American culture should lead by example and immediately give ALL their stuff to the nearest Native American and LEAVE THE DAMN country NOW! Go hang with your Muslim buds in Europe, this country will be greatly improved by your absence!

Conservatives should stop “reacting” to continuous leftist taunts and political ploys - and play the game, as much as morally possible, on the offensive.

For example, propose removing “Labor Day” and replacing it with a “Victory over Communism” day.

This comes from forgetting about God, who forgives but does not excuse.
