Just how bad is the movie 'Truth' that will be released tomorrow? So bad that even the notoriously liberal Vox is mocking it. Vox writer Todd VanDerWerff goes so far as to describe it as an example of why "so many people hate Hollywood liberals." As we shall see even Dan Rather in 2004 disagreed with the premise of "Truth."

It's all about the narrative, not the truth. And that's why people hate Hollywood liberals.

Unfortunately,
Vox missed the bigger point, claiming that the failure to properly vet the story's source was a large enough journalistic failure to justify the sacking of Rather and Mapes.
Actually, the truth is far worse than that: the real truth is that Mapes and Rather already knew that the central tenet of their story was completely false. The TX/ANG brass they interviewed had already told them that not only did Bush not try to use his father's influence to escape from service in Vietnam, but quite to the contrary, Bush had volunteered to go, and was turned down.
This was uncovered by the Thornburgh Commission in the postmortem investigation. FR covered that part of the story as well, six years ago: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2325760/posts

Rush finally gave Buckhead credit today after crediting powerline and little green footballs. When he came back after commercial, he mentioned Buckhead and FR about 5 times. My guess, somebody sent him an email.

The movie was a slap in the face to every honest journalist in the country. (Luckily, that’s a small number now a days...)
