As Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)s history of working for open borders has come under increasing scrutiny, conservative lawmakers have begun to publicly insist that any person who seeks to ascend to the Speakership must oppose amnesty and represent the vast majority of GOP voters who want to close the immigration valve. As Politico recently reported, conservative Congressman Rep. Steve King (R-IA) warned that there will be a major intraparty battle over immigration if Paul comes forward.
A majority of the conference is on my side of this argument, King declared.
Politico added: King said he would not support Ryan for speaker, noting that he has long opposed leadership candidates who are pro-amnesty and that he is still backing Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) to take charge of the House.
Polls show lawmakers could face severe criticism back homeas has already happened with Alabamas Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) if they leave the door open to a Ryan Speakership.
That is because Paul Ryans signature policy goalallowing for the free movement of people and goods across Americas bordersis rejected by massive majorities of GOP voters.
A recent Pew poll found that only 7% of Republican voters want there to be more immigration into the United States. According to a poll from Kellyanne Conway, 80% of GOP voters think new immigration into the U.S. should be reduced by 90% or more. Across all votersDemocrat and RepublicanConways poll shows that only a microscopic 4% agree with Paul Ryan that any willing employer should be able to hire any willing worker regardless of where they livethe open borders credo.

It’s about time they figured it out.
My prediction is Paul Ryan withdraws his name for consideration before Halloween. It is possible for Boehner to extend the voting period by a few weeks, before congress stops their session during the holidays. Paul is content with what he’s been doing the last few years, and is still smarting from the capital disappointment of the 2012 election. Ryan does not have the will or stomach for an open war with the Tea Party. He’ll stop returning calls by John Boehner, and even Mitt’s calls won’t be promptly returned like before.
MARSHA BLACKBURN for SPEAKER!!!
I have great respect for Steve King (not to be confused with Peter King).
That is the key-the new Speaker needs to align with the majority base of the GOP and indeed the country.
Steve King for Speaker!
Next the Republocrats will demonstrate their ability to “Work across he aisle” and get the Dems to vote in their mushy speaker. Uniparty forever united!.
Seconded
Rep. Pelosi: "Mr Speaker this is outrageous!"
Speaker Levin: "Sit down and shut up you moron, you're out of order! There I said it!"
I suggested the same here.

“Watch what this lying, cheating weasel, John Boehner does. He feels the K-Street Gravy Train drying up for himself and his GOPe cronies so hell start shopping democRAT votes for whoever he selects as Speaker. Its a page out of his old playbook to bypass the House conservatives.”
Steve King would make a great speaker.
Well the primariing of Cantor worked. Good!
“...even Mitts calls wont be promptly returned like before.”

Mittens seemed to hedge today with Jake Tapper about Ryan running for Speaker...said Ryan is also needed down the road as POTUS...seemed like a signal that Ryan will ultimately demur on the Speaker gig...
Yes!
We voters of the 7th VA showed the rest of the country that the voters already have term limits in their hands if they will only use the primary process to throw their weasels out like we did.
If you have a weasel representing you like we did,
Cantorize your weasels, America!
He should throw his hat into the ring!
I had the pleasure of meeting Rep. King At the DC Chapter annual Christmas Party in 2002. Over the next year or so (I had to move to Jacksonville in Feb. 2004 to take care of my late mother) I got to know Rep. King relatively well.
Our “connection” was his support for the FairTax; he has been a co-sponsor and avid supporter of the FairTax since he was sworn in as a Congressman in 2003. When I was in WDC, I was a lobbyist for the FairTax, and I relied on Rep. King for introductions to other Members and his sage advice. He was most helpful!
If Steve King were Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, we would get the FairTax legislation passed and signed into law.
And, my fellow FReepers, THAT REALLY EXCITES ME!
Perhaps you will help me convince Rep. King to throw his hat into the ring?
