Huge Flops Hit the Box Office

A frightening showing at the box office this weekend featured five disappointments—including two of the biggest flops in history.

“ Steve Jobs,” “The Last Witch Hunter,” “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension,” “Rock the Kasbah” and “Jem and the Holograms” all fell short, with only “Witch Hunter” cracking $10 million. “Kasbah” and “Jem” now rank among the worst openings of all time, and “Paranormal” missed expectations after weeks of anticipation over its divisive distribution strategy.

Instead, holdovers “The Martian” and “Goosebumps” came in first and second place, respectively. “The Martian” grossed an estimated $15.9 million in the U.S. and Canada, bringing the space drama’s total to $166 million.

The Last Witch Hunter is a straight up good versus evil movie; light on story, lot’s of action. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

any movie that is made to be seen on a big screen. Human interest or comedy movies I just don’t think are worth the expense when they will be on Cable or Netflix in a short time.

That is exactly how I feel about it. I'd rather watch a movie at home where I don't have to deal with idiots unless it's a visual treat.

Opened in 2000 theaters this weekend, and grossed only $7.3 million. It’s estimated they need $120M to make a profit.

I purchased a low end HDTV model - no bells and whistles but OK that is 60" across for under $900. It makes it not worth seeing a movie in a theater with the rabble.

I honestly can't tell the difference of the quality of my LCD HDTV vs that of a premium version. I hooked it up to an old stereo system I had that played cassettes (long since broken feature) but the rest of that 1980s system is still a peach - awesome rich sounds.

I believe the movie shows that Steve Jobes is a pri¢k.

A REAL big pri¢k.

An even bigger pri¢k than FR’s #1 Apple fanboy, if you can ingest that...

Jem and the Holograms? Really? That was doomed to fail from it’s inception.

That sounds like a lot of theaters. How in the world did they do that on a movie about a president and an election everyone wants to forget about?

I'm surprised the Steve Jobs movie is a flop

Did you see it? I did. It's a good enough movie and grabbed the audience's attention. I'm not sure it's as deep a character study as it claims to be. It was okay. Maybe people needed more than "okay" to go to a movie this weekend.

I’m surprised the Steve Jobs movie is a flop. Where are all the Apple fanboys?

Downloading bootleg torrents for free?
