I don’t see how it can be legal to raise the minimum wage for only one type of business. It sounds dubious to do so by executive order as well.

It seems that Democrat governors want to do things through executive order, imitating their buddy Obama.

One would hope that the courts would overrule such a brazen act of decreeing an increase in the minimum wage for only one segment of workers. Clearly an illegal act, but, will the liberal judges who would eventually rule on this agree?

It’s common in much of the country to find a dollar menu section on most fast food menus. Can any New Yorkers tell me if New York City fast food restaurants have dollar menus?

Yes. For a dollar they will bring you a menu.

Depression era law gives the Governor of NY this power apparently. Lot of inertia there.

Who in his right mind would go into the restaurant business under these conditions?

No one.

LGA Airport already has these kiosks in place.

No employees other than an order taker and manager.

I go to a Mcdonalds in Manhattan three times a day for coffee. I buy it from a kiosk. Still brewed and poured by a human, but I suspect that will change soon enough too.

Not sure what this has to do with the issue of a governor possibly exceeding his authority. Airlines are private businesses and can do variable pricing to try to increase business. Sounds like apples and oranges, not sure what you are getting at.

Part of it is based on supply and demand. If you buy the seat too close to the flight date, you must want it badly, right? Another part may be the desirability of a given seat. Who wants to sit in the middle of a row? Beyond that, I would only be guessing.

If, OTOH, you are asking how they GET to do so - it's called free enterprise. No one is forcing you to buy that ticket, unlike Obamacare and the IRS.

Minimum wage is last century. We don’t need it. Let the market decide.

5 Developed Countries without Minimum Wages

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/080515/5-developed-countries-without-minimum-wages.asp

Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland.

CAVEAT:

Switzerland saw a proposal for a legally enforced minimum wage soundly rejected in 2014. The decisive vote against a $25 per hour base salary was touted as evidence the Swiss do not want or need government intervention, which might cause low-wage workers to lose jobs if employers are unable to pay more. However, like all the countries listed in this article, Switzerland relies heavily on trade unions and employee organizations to negotiate fair wages for each industry, meaning 90% of the Swiss earn more than the proposed minimum anyway.

I would also add — SINGAPORE also has no minimum wage.

“I don’t see how it can be legal to raise the minimum wage for only one type of business. It sounds dubious to do so by executive order as well.”

Actually, I don’t see anywhere in the Constitution where there’s any power for government to dictate wages period! It’s like most everything government does, they do it, and dare the people to challenge their “right” to do so.
But Cuomo and Co. will see that they’ve stepped on their extremities again with this “executive overreach,” because the people they wanted “to help,” will now not have a job at any price.

IIRC, in the 80’’s there was a labor shortage and fast food restaurants were paying good wages, probably better than $15 on an inflation adjusted basis. Sort of like ND at the height of the oil boom.
