Maybe off topic, but I have never heard anyone in the MSM talk about either Obama or Clinton connections to Saul Alinsky. I’ve only heard that they were acolytes of Saul Alinsky on sites like this one.

Alinsky applied his tactics in the black ghetto and was a leftist but the principles are equally applicable regardless of political slant. For example, Trump often uses ridicule effectively (”he’s low energy!)” which is one of the “Rules”.
Last time I said this someone replied that conservatives shouldn’t use such tactics, which seems to me like standing on the high ground watching the country slip away. Maybe conservatives had better start.
Machiavelli's triumph was his advice for "The Prince" where he convinced him to work by extracting morality from any action he performs.
Alinsky popularized "The Prince" for the hippies in the 60s.
The main thing Alinsky did was to convince the hippies to "appear" to be good, but underneath work with no morals.
By extracting morals they can do anything as long as ends are justifying the means.
(This is also the definition of psychopaths.)

Like most people though, he really imprinted on politics in his teens and twenties (1920s and 1930s), when the current thinking on the left was divided between the Soviet-model Communists, Fabian-style Social Democrats, and National Socialist Fascists.
Alinsky was a political operative, like modern political professionals who are focused on the nuts and bolts of winning - so he catered to Leftists of all stripes.
What characterized his approach though, are the methods used by the Fascists. Rather than abstract intellectual theories about economics like Marx, he promoted using purposely vague themes, relying instead on inflammatory rhetoric and emotional manipulation.
Although you could rightly call him “Machiavellian” in the amoral way he advocated achieving power (power for its own sake), the bulk of his approach and techniques were those practiced by those technocratic marvels of modern socialism that were so popular in his formative days - the Fascists of Italy and the Nazis.
In those days, Roosevelt distributed books from Mussolini’s favorite philosopher to the members of his cabinet, and Hitler was Time Magazine’s Man of the Year (1937).
Alinsky’s main models, his main inspiration, were the Nazis and Fascists.
Alinsky has some ugly methods, but that doesn't mean they work.

They do work when properly implemented. You have but to look at California for evidence of their efficacy. The state that produced Ronald Reagan went from that to one of the most liberal states in the country in less than 30 years.
