How scary are your jack-oâ-lanterns? Scarier than you think, according to the Energy Department, which claims the holiday squash is responsible for unleashing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Most of the 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins produced in the U.S. end up in the trash, says the Energy Departmentâs website, becoming part of the âmore than 254 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) produced in the United States every year.â

Now you're starting to understand, pilgrim.
In rural areas, not much of anything gets wasted-I’ll put the 2 pumpkins I’ve got out on Saturday night, and if the deer haven’t played soccer with, and eaten them by Sunday morning, I’ll give them to my neighbor to feed to his goats...
Any pumpkin we get would be put in our compost container &
tossed into the compost pile out back. There it would rot
to a pulp and then be spread on our garden plot. We have
done that for the past 30 yrs. with ALL organic refuse. -
We don’t do jack-o-lanterns & don’t get any trick or
treaters out here.

Compost pile!!! You know of course that you are destroying the environment with the heat and fumes emitted from that thing. major /s
I think Obama already imposed a Christmas tree tax... I vaguely recall that controversy.
Yep. The heat & fumes. I have to jump back every time I
carry the compost bucket out there so that it doesn’t
singe my eyebrows!\s
Be careful...it’s a jungle out there!
Hahaha! Good one.
