Thank you to my fellow H-town voters! I was really nervous about this. Had a Facebook dispute with a friend who claims to be a conservative Christian (the latter I believe, the former not so much) who supports HERO & posted encouragement for all to vote for it (she doesn’t live in the city limits so was unable to). People hear a sob story of some high school friend who is trans & all they can think of is they want to make the person less sad. People just do not think through the consequences, nor do they remember that, (as I think Jindal said), America did not create religious freedom ~ religious freedom created America.

Oh and there are plenty of hometown supporters, from the realtor association to the Greater Houston Partnership to oil companies etc. (For those who said support was only from out of state - sadly that’s not true. There was a full page ad in the Chronicle listing probably 50 local or local branches of supporting businesses / organizations. I meant to save it so if I did I’ll get back to y’all on that.) This is a battle that will have to be fought & won again & again across the nation, so cowboy up my friends.

I’m just surprised that a bill like that is even on a ballot in TX...”

Texas has a bunch of sanctuary cities - Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin. Ten years ago it wouldn’t have made it to the ballot. Glad I moved to the suburbs.

Corporations are liberal these days and newrooms are engaging in pink journalism.

We can boycott industries just as homofascist liberals seeks to BAN chains like Chick-Fil-A in their cities.

The FINANCIAL support of this proposition was largely from out of the area. The big names in support of it are from out of the area.

The cool kids just aren’t as cool as they say they are. Naked emperor is naked.

Greater Houston Partnership is really not a good group. A bunch of liberal Democrats who seek to choose Houston’s series of mayors (all Dem).

Bill King professes to be a MODERATE Democrat. We’ll have to see just how moderate he is (or can be).

Great news, Houstonians.

Now, next time don’t elect a militant dyke as mayor, dummies.

HOMO would’ve been a more accurate abbreviation. Homosexual Ordinance Mandating Oppression.

Even Rolling Stoned’s categorization of their article tips that point:

Topics: LGBT

So much for it being about protecting the rights of other groups (already protected by Federal law).

Agreed. They are long time supporters of the prog agenda including every bond measure that comes down the pike, taxpayer-funded stadiums for every sport, etc.

We were not going to get a good mayor no matter what. I was torn between Ben Hall (liberal Democrat, but the strongest opponent of HERO among the mayoral candidates - also I met him when he came to my church to urge us all to vote against it) or Bill King who at least voted in GOP primaries in 2010 & 08 & opposed HERO - but not that vehemently. So if Turner / King are the choices I’ll vote King w/zero enthusiasm.

And Chris Bell has proven himself to be a FOUR time loser.”

I just couldn’t believe he would even run for anything again. Talk about a zero. He is the most boring candidate I have seen, outside of Jeb.

could the recent hurricand played a role in lowering turnout?

Would work in any homo city and its the truth. I don't think the homo community has near the support everyone thinks they do. The millenials were indoctrinated at a young age" but now I'm beginning to see signs that they're becoming aware of how perverse they really are.

I doubt it. The last real hurricane around these parts was around 2008. Last week was just a tad rainy...and it was...last week.

A bunch of 30-something hipsters (now raising families) on the facebook are irked that this was voted down.

Well, they can always move to Austin.

The mayor told everyone to stay indoors a week ago. “Don’t go out! Wet roads! Brrr! Hunker down!!!”

Early voting was overwhelmingly against this.

This is a much higher turnout than the last open mayor’s race 6 years ago.
