Coyotes, such as the one pictured above, are being spotted in New Berlin. One attacked a poodle on Oct. 22 near its home.

Doggie ping. Is this good advice? My neighborhood does allow shooting on large plots of property (over 10 acres).

"Try squirting them with hoses, water guns with vinegar water, spray bottles with vinegar water, pepper spray, bear repellant or walking sticks," the guidelines say.

Or just shoot the @#$%ing thing with your handgun.

Coyotes (and wolves) increasing their presence in suburban Milwaukee. Does this advice from New Berlin work?

Bear spray? Thirty foot range.

Depends on the neighborhood. You have to live on 10 acres, or more, in certain designated ag districts to be allowed to hunt varmints with a gun.

Be prepared to follow through and beat the beastie with a shillehleigh or hickory stick. They’ll run when they see you mean business. He’s a dog killer and will have to be shot.

You could throw a lead ball at them, at 900fps or maybe even faster.

“Try squirting them with hoses....walking sticks”

I’d like to see the mechanics of this.

Also a sock full of nickles works pretty good to. If your wife still uses ammonia to clean, that mixed with water in a squirt gun will make any animal run away from you. I know this works from experience. My brother and I use to deliver newspapers and we needed something to scare away dogs that bothered us. It was my mom who came up with the idea. It works very well.

I haze coyotes with my rifle and then we hang the carcass on the barb wire fence as a warning to the others. I don’t know if that last part works or not but people around here say it does so we do it.

“Yell and wave your arms, use noisemakers such as whistles, air horns, bells, soda cans filled with pennies or dead batteries, or bang pots and pans together, the society advises in its “Coyote Hazing Guidelines.” All these methods are called hazing. “........

IMO.........There are a few permanent ways to be rid of coyotes, poison, bullets (includes shotgun pellets) and arrows, all others a just “temporary” measures.

If the coyote does run away,

If it doesn't and starts coming towards you, is it ok to try and run away then? Climbing a tree might work.......
